A tremendous first week and a good start to the second week has put Sultan box office collections on a trajectory to hit the Rs 300 cr mark and perhaps, more. With the opening week collections hitting Rs 180.30 cr and thereafter managing to keep the daily earnings in 2 figures, has put Salman Khan in an enviable enough position to make an entry into the Rs 300 cr club.

However, though the trajectory is very much there, there is a problem too – the speed at which the collections are coming have tapered of suddenly and there is a distinct possibility that the movie will have to settle in for quite a long grind.

By the 8th day, Sultan box office collections have raced to Rs 219.64 cr after raking in Rs 10.82 crore on Wednesday. However, a collections average based around this low 2-figure sum will not be anywhere near enough to usher it into the exclusive club. Instead, it will have to hope for a major boost over the weekend to stand any chance of entering this space and more than that, if Salman Khan has any ambition to turn his movie into a Rs 400 cr monster, he will have to galvanise his fans to increase numbers to watch the movie, again. An average of Rs 15 crore is the recommended par for the course for Sultan movie.

Be that as it may, Salman Khan has 2 top movies ahead of him on this score, movies that he must have hoped would be left on the mat under Sultan’s juggernaut-like rampage in the cinemas. One is Salman Khan’s own recent release Bajrangi Bhaijaan, which collected as much as Rs 321 cr in its lifetime and the other is close pal Aamir Khan’s PK, which logged Rs 340.8 cr at the B.O. Closer to Sultan at the moment is another Aamir starrer Dhoom 3, which collected as much as Rs 284 cr. This one more than likely to be left behind in the fields of a wrestling playground.

While Sultan is looking to create history by doing all the hard work required, it will not only have to contend with past records, but also enter battle with a new release that has hit cinemas on Friday, the sexual innuendo filled Great Grand Masti. Not just that, the week after that there will be an even bigger challenge in the form of Rajinikanth’s Kabali and Madaari. These are definitely exciting times as the superstars all line up in the middle of the year to hock their wares and burnish their stars. However, all of them are at the mercy of Bollywood lovers and fans. Who wins and who loses will ultimately be decided by them.
