Mysterious hoardings of Varanasi, the much-anticipated film helmed by director SS Rajamouli, have appeared across Varanasi city, fuelling speculations that the mega project starring Priyanka Chopra and Mahesh Babu is set to hit the theatres worldwide on April 7, 2027.
Not long back, in November 2024, the film’s title was unveiled in the glittery ‘Globetrotter’ event packed with over 50,000 fans, in Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City. While Priyanka Chopra’s glamorous gun-wielding Mandakini look set the internet on fire, Mahesh Babu’s Rudhra riding on bull and carrying a trishul left netizens wanting more.
Official announcement on the cards?
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to social media to share the development saying the official announcement is expected tonight, on January 29, 2026.
“Breaking News… SS Rajamouli’s much-awaited biggie Varanasi to release on April 7, 2027. There’s tremendous speculation that master storyteller. SS Rajamouli’s much-awaited biggie Varanasi is gearing up for a worldwide release on Wednesday, 7 April, 2027,” posted Adarsh.
“Hoardings have surfaced across Varanasi city, further fuelling the buzz and multiplying the speculation manifold… An official announcement is expected tonight (fingers crossed),” he added.
Adarsh further wrote that the makers might have chosen the date to cash in on the harvest holidays of Ugadi (April 7), Gudi Padwa (April 7), Ambedkar Jayanti (April 14) and Ram Navami (April 15).
What Varanasi is about
Varanasi promises to be a time-travel adventure rooted in Hindu mythology with a major sequence inspired by an important episode from epic Ramayana.
“While writing every scene and every dialogue, I felt like I was floating,” Rajamouli had told fans, saying the 60-day shoot for the sequence was among the most challenging of his career.
Netizens give thumbs up to the unique marketing strategy
Netizens were thoroughly impressed with the unique hoardings that say it all without even mentioning the title of the movie.
“Wow unique marketing. Without the title of the film 👏 👏 👏 this film will be remembered in history,” a user wrote.
A fan thought that the innovative idea “saved crores by escaping release day announcement event.” Yet another social media user called Rajamouli the “Mastermind of marketing.”
“Publicity starts at its roots—Varanasi! Release: 7 April 2027,” another wrote.
