Rajpal Yadav Cheque Bounce Case : Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav, popularly recalled as ‘chota pandit’ in Akshay Kumar’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa, found himself in a legal soup. Serving a jail sentence in a Rs 9 crore cheque-bounce case, Rajpal Yadav surrendered earlier this month. The Delhi High Court presided by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, heard his bail appeal on Thursday, February 12.
However, there was no immediate relief for the actor as he is set to continue his sentence in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, atleast till Monday. The Delhi HC allowed the opposite side time till February 16 to reply to his bail application.
Hopeful for a release, Yadav had earlier expressed that he had ‘no other way’ but to surrender. Striking a chord with several friendly faces in the industry, actors Ajay Devgn, Salman Khan, Sonu Sood, producer David Dhawan, and music producer Rao Inderjeet Singh offered him financial support.

The long-running case in the Mumbai courts dates back to 2010, when Yadav set out to produce his debut directorial ‘Ata Pata Laapata’. What started as a Rs 5 crore investment, piled with interest rates and flops, soon became a Rs 9 crore amount. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), later issued a letter, urging its members to come forward and support Rajpal Yadav.
Rajpal Yadav has also recently wrapped up his project with Akshay Kumar. Set to star in ‘Bhoot Bangla’, the film’s release has been pushed up from May 2026 to April 10.

Rajpal Yadav Bail Hearing Today LIVE: Court adourns the case to Monday
After the Delhi High Court resumed for hearing, the legal counsel appearing for Rajpal Yadav filed a bail hearing, seeking a response from the other side.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma allowed time to the opposite side till Monday to file a reply. "When I was going through the file, there were so many things we didn't even know. They have challenged the first order before the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court didn't give them any relief," observed the court, delaying the verdict.

The case dates back to the time when Rajpal Yadav borrowed nearly Rs 5 crore from M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to fund his directorial debut. However, after the film failed at the box office, he suffered heavy financial losses and struggled to repay the loan.
In 2018, a magisterial court convicted Yadav and his wife, Radha, in a cheque bounce case and sentenced both to six months in jail. They challenged the ruling in the Delhi High Court in 2019, but the Sessions Court upheld the original verdict.
Over the years, the court granted Yadav multiple opportunities and extensions to clear his dues. Despite this relief, he was unable to repay the full amount and managed only partial payments, including Rs 40 lakh through a demand draft, while also promising to pay Rs 2 crore later.
According to recent proceedings, the Bhool Bhulaiyaa actor was required to pay Rs 1.35 crore in each of the seven cases filed against him. In October 2025, he submitted two demand drafts worth Rs 75 lakh, even as his total outstanding liability stood at around Rs 9 crore.

Singer-songwriter Mika Singh has also extended financial support of Rs 11 lakh to Rajpal Yadav, days after he surrendered. "I have one humble request: please don't just post announcements. Let's make sure we actually contribute and make it happen," Mika wrote in his post on Instagram. He joins the list with Sonu Sood, Guru Randhawa and Gurmeet Choudhary, who have backed Rajpal Yadav.
