Prabhas has once again shown why he is considered one of the biggest draws in Indian cinema. His latest film, The Raja Saab, which released yesterday (January 9, 2026), immediately made an impact at the online ticket windows, collecting Rs 100 crore on Day 1 itself.
Despite arriving with mixed reviews from critics, the horror-comedy managed to set a massive record – proving that the actor’s stardom can often outweigh critical reception. According to data from industry tracker Sacnilk, Prabhas has officially become the first Indian actor to have six different films open with more than Rs 100 crore at the global Box Office.
Opening day records and performance
The film started its journey with a strong series of paid previews on Thursday, which brought in approximately Rs 9.15 crore across India. On its official opening day Friday, it added another Rs 54.15 crore net to its domestic total. This brings the total Indian net collection to Rs 63.3 crore for the first two days of activity.
When looking at the gross numbers, the film earned roughly Rs 75 crore in India alone. Overseas markets also contributed significantly, adding about Rs 26 crore, which allowed The Raja Saab to cross the Rs 100 crore mark globally on its very first day.
The majority of this revenue came from the Telugu-speaking regions, where fans turned out in huge numbers to see Prabhas in a more lighthearted, vintage role. Sacnilk reports that the Telugu version alone accounted for over Rs 47 crore of the opening day net.
In contrast, the Hindi version saw a more modest start, collecting around Rs 6.15 crore. While these numbers are impressive, they are lower than his previous action epics like Kalki 2898 AD and Salaar – which opened with Rs 198 and Rs 178 crores respectively – which is expected given that this film belongs to the horror-comedy genre rather than being a crowd favourite action thriller.
Ending Dhurandhar’s dominant theatrical run
Even with its smaller start compared to his past action movies, The Raja Saab managed to achieve something no other film has done in over a month. It successfully ended the dominant run of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, which had held the top spot at the Indian Box Office for five weeks. On its 36th day, Dhurandhar collected about Rs 3.5 crore, falling behind The Raja Saab as the new wave of audiences shifted toward the Sankranti release.
However, the second day has shown a bit of a struggle. Early estimates for Saturday suggest a sharp dip in collections, with the movie netting around Rs 3.35 crore as of midday. Media reports suggest that the polarized word-of-mouth and mixed reviews regarding the film’s length and screenplay might be affecting walk-in audiences.
The film has a massive budget of roughly Rs 400 crore, so the upcoming Sunday and the following holiday period will be incredibly important for its long-term financial success. For now, Prabhas remains the king of openings, but the next few days will determine if The Raja Saab can sustain this momentum.
