Raja Saab box office collection day 1: Dhurandhar‘s record has just been broken – at least one of the many. Prabhas’ just-released romantic horror-comedy, The Raja Saab, has collected Rs 45 crore, overtaking Dhurandhar’s opening day collection of Rs 28 crore despite receiving poor reviews for its content.
Made in collaboration with Maruthi, the film’s success points towards the Telugu superstar’s huge popularity and immense star power.
Drawing in a large audience with nearly Rs 30 crore in advance collections, Raja Saab broke Ranveer Singh Dhurandhar’s opening-day record. Collecting Rs 10 crore more than Bollywood’s biggest film on its debut day is a huge feat for the Raja Saab team.
The film’s success could also be partly attributed to Sanjay Dutt, one of Bollywood’s prominent faces. Dutt, who starred in Dhurandhar as SP Chaudhary Aslam, plays Kanakaraju in the Prabhas-starrer.
Raja Saab is a drama surrounding the tale of royal heritage and a rebellious spirit. With all the spotlight shining on the Prabhas starrer, it was earlier set to clash with Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. However, the political drama found itself in the middle of a legal drama.
Raja Saab box office collection: Day 1 update
The Raja Saab, with a Pongal release, expected collections way above the Rs 30 crore mark. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Prabhas-Sanjay Dutt starrer collected Rs 45 crore on its opening day. Setting the record straight, Prabhas proved to be the true box office king that he is. The Raja Saab’s box office collection, including the day zero gross, managed to cross the Rs 50 crore mark.
Raja Saab – Occupancy rates
With an overall 57.16 per cent occupancy for Raja Saab in Telugu, there was consistent excitement throughout the day. With over 970 shows scheduled in Hyderabad, the occupancy rates soared past the 75 per cent mark in the state alone. While Raja Saab in Hindi did not remain a popular format, the Baahubali star still managed to perform better than Agastya Nanda and Dharmendra’s war film, Ikkis.
The Maruthi film received a range of mixed reviews on social media. From calling it a ‘disaster’ to a ‘masterpiece’, fans found it everything in between. However, as the weekend sets in, the Raja Saab box office collection is set to increase even further.
Directed by Maruthi, Nidhhi Agerwal, Boman Irani, and Riddhi Kumar star alongside Prabhas and Sanjay Dutt in key roles.
