Sunjay Kapoor inheritance battle: Priya Kapur, the third wife of late business tycoon Sunjay Kapur who passed away in 2025, has approached the Supreme Court of India seeking access to certified copies of all documents related to the divorce proceedings of the couple from 2016, as per an ANI report. This comes amid an ongoing high-profile inheritance legal battle over Sunjay Kapur’s estate, which is estimated to be nearly Rs 30,000 crore.

A bench of Justice AS Chandurkar will consider the matter of Kapur’s demands to access the confidential documents. In her application, Kapur sought specifically the settlement and custody agreement. She had earlier claimed that Sunjay Kapur’s children with Karisma – Samaira and Kiaan, had received Rs 1900 crore of assets from the family trust.

The appeal came as a response to ascertain the financial and child custody arrangements made after the couple split in 2016. In November 2025 proceedings, the lawyers appearing on behalf of Karisma Kapoor’s children had then claimed that the education fee for their universities abroad was yet to be ‘released’ by Priya Kapur.

Background of Sunjay Kapur’s estate battle

Karisma Kapoor’s children had also approached the Delhi High Court, alleging that the will is ‘forged and fabricated’. They also reportedly demanded a forensic investigation of Kapur’s will, pointing out several fallacies in terms of his signature and a digital footprint of the updates.

Samaira and Kiaan’s legal team challenged the will under which the late industrialist bequeathed his entire estate to his wife, citing Priya Kapur’s swift transition to the helm of Sona Comstar soon after his death. They alleged that his mother and siblings were excluded, too.

The highly disputed will was also alleged to have witnesses who weren’t physically present during the formulation of the original one. There were accusations of collusion flung around during a September 2025 proceeding in the Delhi HC. Furthermore, they sought an interim injunction to restrain Priya Kapur from dealing with or alienating assets which belonged to their father, Sunjay Kapur, who passed away at 53.

Kapur had suffered from a sudden heart attack while playing polo in England. The estate, rumoured to be worth Rs 30,000 crore, has been stuck in a legal soup since.
