Sivakarthikeyan-starrer, Parasakthi, has officially completed its first Monday ‘test,’ showing the heavy impact of the post-weekend transition. While the film has achieved a major milestone globally, the domestic performance saw a sharp decline as the work week began. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film is now relying on the upcoming Pongal holidays to stabilize its theater run.

On its third day (Monday, January 12), Parasakthi earned an estimated Rs 2.75 crore net in India. This follows a weekend where it collected Rs 12.50 crore on Saturday and Rs 10.10 crore on Sunday. While the drop was expected, the domestic Box Office collection fell by over 70% (approximately 72.7%) compared to its Sunday haul. This steep decline brings the total India net collection to Rs 25.6 crore after three days.

Global gross surges past Rs 50 crore

Despite the domestic slowdown, the worldwide performance remains the film’s strongest highlight. Sacnilk reports that the total global gross has now officially crossed the Rs 50 crore mark. The overseas market has been a significant contributor, adding approximately Rs 20 crore to the tally, while the total India gross (including taxes) stands at roughly Rs 30.50 crore. This brings the worldwide total to a solid Rs 51 crore in just three days.

The film’s international success is being attributed to the strong resonance of its 1960s anti-Hindi agitation theme among the Tamil diaspora. Even with mixed reviews regarding the film’s pacing, the global audience has shown a willingness to pay higher average ticket prices to witness Sivakarthikeyan’s more intense, content-driven role. With the core Pongal festival starting tomorrow, producers are hopeful that the worldwide numbers will see another significant spike.

Steady occupancy in key regions

The Monday transition was clearly visible in the theatre occupancy rates. Sacnilk recorded an overall Tamil occupancy of just 19.70% for the day – a sharp fall from the 51% seen on Sunday. The day began with a quiet 13.45% in the morning, but interest grew toward the evening, with night shows peaking at 24.65% occupancy.

Chennai remains the film’s primary stronghold, recording a 25% overall occupancy even on a Monday. Other major regions such as Pondicherry (31.50%), Trichy (23%), and Vellore (24.50%) also provided steady support. These figures suggest that while the initial fan rush has cooled down significantly – leading to that 70%+ drop – the film still maintains a presence in urban centres.. The next few days will be important to see if family audiences return in large numbers for the holiday festivities.
