Sivakarthikeyan’s latest historical political drama, Parasakthi, has made a significant mark at the global Box Office in its opening weekend. Despite a slight dip on its second day, the film has capitalized on its status as the season’s major solo Tamil release following the postponement of Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film’s worldwide total has climbed steadily, proving the star’s growing pull in international markets.
On Sunday, January 11, Parasakthi earned an estimated Rs 10.15 crore net in India. While this was a slight drop from its Rs 12.50 crore opening, the domestic net total now stands at Rs 22.65 crore. However, the real story is the global performance; the film’s total worldwide collection has already reached approximately Rs 43 crore in just two days, with the overseas market contributing a strong Rs 16.1 crore to the tally.
Global momentum despite domestic hurdles
The worldwide performance of Parasakthi is particularly impressive given the military-style rush the team faced to implement 25 last-minute censor cuts just hours before the premiere. According to Sacnilk data, the overseas audience has been a major pillar for the film – helping it stay competitive against other big South Indian releases like Prabhas’s The Raja Saab which also has a lot of buzz surrounding it.
In India, the film made Box Office collections of Rs 26.9 crore, showing that – while reviews have been mixed regarding the pacing – the historical 1960s backdrop is resonating with the diaspora. The plot of the movie follows two brothers as they participate in the 1965 Anti-Hindi imposition agitation in Tamil Nadu.
With the lucrative Pongal holidays officially beginning this week, trade analysts expect the global numbers to see another surge. The film is performing best in its home state, but Sacnilk reports that Karnataka and Kerala have also chipped in with Rs 3 crore and Rs 0.69 crore respectively. By reaching the Rs 43 crore mark worldwide so quickly, the film is well on its way to recovering its reported Rs 140 crore budget – provided it holds steady during the upcoming festival days.
Strong urban occupancy across regions
The theater occupancy for Parasakthi remained healthy on Sunday, with Sacnilk reporting an overall Tamil occupancy of 51.06%. The film saw a clear afternoon-evening trend, starting at 35.15% in the morning and peaking at 60.69% during evening shows. This indicates that family audiences are increasingly choosing the film as their primary holiday entertainment.
Chennai continues to be the film’s strongest market – recording a massive 66% overall occupancy across nearly 900 shows. Other regions also saw high footfalls, with Pondicherry leading at 69%, followed by Trichy at 65.50% and Coimbatore at 53.50%. Even in non-traditional markets like Mumbai, the film maintained a surprising 35.50% occupancy. With night shows holding at 50%, the film is heading into the work week with enough momentum to keep the screens busy until the next big holiday wave.
