Mardaani 3 box office collection day 1: Rani Mukerji, reprising her role as cop Shivani Shivaji Roy returned to the big screen on Friday, January 30. Investigating another gripping case, Mukerji’s much-awaited threequel is finally out. The fierce comeback was seen as a winner, but reviews on social media and slow box office collections tell a different tale.

While loyalists and Rani Mukerji fans celebrated her comeback after her National Award-winning performance in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, many felt the current installment is the weakest chapter of the franchise.

Mardaani 3 explores the horrors of child trafficking, with Rani’s character pitted against the ruthless Amma, portrayed by Malika Prasad.

Mardaani 3 box office collections: Day 1 report

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Abhiraj Minawala directorial has grossed Rs 3.8 crore on its opening day. While slow as compared to mega-starrer war film Border 2, it has matched up to its prequel. Mardaani 2 collected an identical Rs 3.8 crore on its debut day, and raked up Rs 67 crore globally, a significant feat given its modest Rs 30 crore budget.

While the overall occupancy rate failed to touch the 20 per cent mark, night shows dominated with a 31.14 per cent occupancy. With over 3000 shows scheduled for day 1 and Rs 1 crore in advance collections, Delhi NCR occupied nearly 19 per cent of the seats across 526 shows. Mumbai saw a higher tip of 26.75 per cent across 381 shows.

The Rani Mukerji starrer also features Janki Bodiwala, alongside Mallika Prasad as the antagonist.

Rani Mukerji has ruled Bollywood for many years but surprisingly has never given a Rs 100 crore hit in India. Starring opposite Aamir Khan, Talaash was her biggest hit at Rs 93 crore. Her second-biggest film is Mardaani 2, followed by Kuch Kuch Hota Hai which grossed nearly Rs 47 crore.

Headlining Hichki, her movie earned Rs 45 crore, followed by Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna on the fifth position. She has also worked with several mega stars like all three Khans, Shah Rukh, Aamir, and Salman, along with Saif, and Abhishek Bachchan.
