Jana Nayagan release date row: Thalapathy Vijay’s final film ‘Jana Nayagan’ found itself in the middle of a legal battle, just four days ahead of its scheduled release. Postponing the release of Jana Nayagan, the Madras High Court urged the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to issue the U/A 16+ certification, after the hearing yesterday, January 9. Amid this setback, Jana Nayagan producer Venkat K Narayan opened up about the sub judice matter, extending an apology to the stakeholders, including Thalapathy Vijay‘s fans.

Touted as the south superstar’s last film before he enters his political career full-time, the Jana Nayagan producer shared, “We firmly believe that Thalapathy Vijay sir deserves the farewell that he has earned through decades of love from his fans and the respect from the industry.” The video was posted on KVN Production’s official Instagram page.

Jana Nayagan producer on film’s delay

Venkat K Narayan acknowledged the immense excitement the fans expressed about Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film. Sharing the similar sentiment of dejection, he presented some facts from the ongoing matter. With the release date still unconfirmed, Jana Nayagan might only see the day of light post January 20.

Explaining the timeline of the complaint, Narayan revealed that the final edit of Jana Nayagan was sent to the CBFC on December 18, 2025. Days later, on December 22, they had been granted a U/A 16+ certificate, subject to a few changes. Making the necessary edits to their film, they resubmitted it. With the certificate still pending, days ahead of the Pongal release, on January 5, 2026, they were informed that the film had been referred to the revising committee. The KVN Productions statement added, “without knowing who the complainant was, we approached the Honourable High Court.”

CBFC challenges Madras HC order

During the hearing on January 6-7, the Madras High Court ordered the issuance of U/A 16+ certificate to actor Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan. “But CBFC challenged this decision immediately, and the order to issue the certification is currently stayed, and an interim stay has been granted,” revealed Venkat K Narayan.

Apologising to the “audiences, distributors, exhibitors and all other stakeholders who stood by us during this difficult period,” the Thalapathy Vijay film’s producer shared that it became an “extremely emotional and difficult moment.” However, the ‘developments beyond control’ severely affected the ‘heart, soul and years of hard work,’ put into the film. In the end, he concluded that the mega star deserved a farewell for the decades’ worth of contributions he has made to the Indian film industry.

“Your patience, belief and unwavering support give us the strength. We have complete faith in the judicial process and remain hopeful that the film will reach the audiences at the earliest,” the statement ended.
