Challenging the Madras High Court stay, Jana Nayagan producers, KVN Productions have been instructed by the Supreme Court of India to raise their arguments before the Madras HC’s Division Bench, in an attempt to seek relief from the release date delay. The hearing has now been pushed to January 20, which will decide the fate of the Rs 500 crore movie.
Senior Advocate Mukul Rohtagi appealed to the court and said, “I have lost everything. This is a complete malafide.” Justice Duta replied, “That is the law. Why shouldn’t the party be given opportunity to reply. Take this point before division bench,” as per Live Law updates.

The film was submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in December 2025 itself, and the Examining Committee initially agreed on a U/A 16+ certificate after suggested changes. However, a complaint alleged that certain scenes in the film may hurt religious sentiments and portray the armed forces negatively. It was only on January 5 that the makers were made aware of a complaint made on the latest version of the film.
Touted as the politician’s last film in the industry, fans are wary about whether he will appear on the big screen one final time, or not. This came after the CBFC chairman referred Jana Nayagan to a revising committee, days before its Pongal release, despite the U/A 16+ certification already approved in December 2025.
