Arijit Singh, the crooner of melodious numbers like Tum Hi Ho, Channa Mereya and Agar Tum Saath Ho, sent shockwaves across the Indian film industry with his sudden decision to retire from playback singing at the age of 38.
His social media post on January 27 evening left many heartbroken as the nation award-winning singer announced his decision of “calling it off” and “putting a full stop” at his wonderful journey. Fans expressed their shock and disbelief over the update and started flooding his social media feed with heartfelt messages of how much his songs meant to them with some wondering if he could consider making a comeback.
Many netizens also speculated if the decision was taken to shift his focus to direction or the artist was simply burnt out.
Is Arijit Singh planning a new political journey?
Meanwhile a new report has said the actor is considering launching a political outfit next.
According to an NDTV report, Singh is mulling over the idea of launching a political party next, but is in no hurry to immediately start this new journey. Sources told the news channel that “the launch of his political party will not be immediate and will most likely not be part of the 2026 Bengal Assembly Elections.”
The Bengali film industry insiders further told the channel that the singer “might consider fighting elections at a grassroots level first.”

“Hello, Happy new year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not going to be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey,” Singh posted on Instagram on Tuesday.
“God has been really kind to me. I am a fan of good music and in future will be learning more and do more on my own as a small little artist. Thanks again for all your support. I still have to finish some pending commitments, will finish them. So you might get some releases this year. Just to be clear that I won’t stop making music,” he added.
How Arijit Singh started his singing career
Singh started his singing journey with a Sony TV reality show Fame Gurukul and reached till the grand finale. While he couldn’t win the show, the early exposure at 18 helped him with opportunities in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Arijit Singh’s last released song Maatrubhumi released just a few days back. Filmed on Salman Khan, the patriotic number is from Apoorva Lakhia’s upcoming film Battle of Galwan.
Arijit Singh first shot to fame with Aashiqui 2 in 2013 after Tum Hi Ho song became a huge hit. It was followed by a string of superhit melodious numbers like Suno Na Sangemarmarmar from Youngistaan, Mast Magan from 2 States, Muskurane from CityLights, Samjhawan from Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, and Aaj Phir from Hate Story 2 among many others.
