Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has officially announced the release date of his much-anticipated film Drishyam 3, sending fans into a frenzy. Sharing the update on social media, the actor revealed that the Jeethu Joseph-directed thriller will hit theatres on April 2, alongside a chilling caption, “Years passed. The past didn’t.”

The announcement confirmed what director Jeethu Joseph had hinted at earlier this month in Kerala. Speaking at a private event in Kochi on January 6, Joseph had said the third instalment of the celebrated franchise would release in April 2026. “Drishyam is a film that has influenced many people. I still bear the impact of it. Without much expectations, you may watch the movie in the theatres in the first week of April,” director Joseph said. He added that the official date would be revealed soon.

What the ‘Drishyam’ franchise is about

The ‘Drishyam’ film franchise follows the gripping story of Georgekutty, a cable TV operator whose life turns upside down after an unexpected crime threatens his family. The first two films were widely acclaimed for their layered storytelling and suspense-driven narrative, turning the series into some of Indian cinema’s most interesting thriller films.

Along with Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Asha Sharath, Murali Gopi and Siddique will reprise their roles, continuing the story that left a lot of people debating its moral and emotional complexities.

Hindi version of Drishyam

Meanwhile, the Hindi version of Drishyam 3 is also in the works and is expected to release in October. The rights have been acquired by Panorama Studios, with Abhishek Pathak set to direct. The film will star Ajay Devgn and Tabu in lead roles.

However, the Hindi adaptation has made headlines after Akshaye Khanna reportedly opted out of the project. According to industry sources, the actor exited due to disagreements over his remuneration and character look, with reports claiming he sought a fee of Rs 21 crore following recent box office successes.
