Vikram Bhatt Rs 30 crore fraud case: Raaz director Vikram Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari, have been sent to judicial custody by a court in Udaipur. Reportedly involved in defrauding the plaintiff of Rs 30 crore, a lookout notice had been issued for the couple and six others earlier this month. This came after the court rejected their lawyer’s request for interim bail on medical grounds.

According to an ANI report, Advocate Manzoor Hussain revealed, “The lawyer for the accused presented an application for interim bail, requesting that it be granted on medical grounds. If interim bail is granted before the court session ends, both individuals could be released for a short period to receive medical treatment. Everything depends on the court’s order.”

However, the plea for medical treatment was rejected, and the court issued an order for judicial custody. Confirming the development, a TOI report quoted DSP Suryaveer Singh, who shared, “They will now be sent to the Central Jail in Udaipur.”

About Vikram Bhatt and the Rs 30 crore fraud case

The filmmaker and his wife were arrested in Mumbai on December 7 and brought to Udaipur by the authorities. They were then presented before the court on December 8 and remanded to seven days of police custody on December 9.

The couple, and others, reportedly defrauded Dr Ajay Murdia, part of the Indira Group of Companies of Rs 30 crore. The IVF doctor had approached the makers to make a biopic on his late wife. Promised Rs 200 crore in earnings, the Indira IVF headliner filed an FIR naming eight people, including Bhatt’s daughter, Krishna. The Udaipur-based doctor approached the Bhopalpura police station and accused them of ‘cheating and other offences,’ as per PTI.

The FIR was lodged on November 17, as he accused Bhatt of siphoning off Rs 30 crore on the grounds of false assurances. Police further claimed that the alleged fraud was carried out through fake bills.

The others named include Dinesh Kataria, Mehnoob Ansari, and Mudit Buttatan. Gangeshwar Lal Srivastava, and Ashok Dubey, the DSC Chairman and General Secretary of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees, respectively, were named too.
