The anticipation for Ranveer Singh’s next release in theatres has reached a fever pitch following new updates from the Censor Board. On Monday, January 19, 2026, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) officially cleared the teaser for the sequel to last year’s historic blockbuster, Dhurandhar.
As revealed on the censor certificate, the film has been formally titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge, a name that leans into the cliffhanger that audiences witnessed at the end of the first installment.
Certification and theatrical release strategy
In a move that hints at a much darker and more violent tone, the CBFC has awarded the teaser an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate. According to reports from Sacnilk and Bollywood Hungama, the teaser has a confirmed runtime of 1 minute and 48 seconds.
To capitalize on the current wave of patriotic cinema, the makers have strategically decided to attach the teaser to the theatrical prints of Sunny Deol’s Border 2, which hits screens this Friday, January 23. This ensures that the sequel’s first look will be experienced by a massive audience on the big screen before its digital debut.
Everything we know about Dhurandhar: The Revenge so far
The sequel picks up exactly where the first film left off, continuing the story of undercover Indian agent Jaskirat Singh Rangi, played by Ranveer Singh. While the first film followed his infiltration into a dangerous Karachi-based gang, The Revenge is expected to raise the stakes significantly. Director Aditya Dhar has confirmed that the core ensemble – including Sanjay Dutt as SP Chaudhary Aslam, R. Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal, and Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal – will all return to reprise their roles.
One of the major points of discussion is the return of Akshaye Khanna as the villain, Rehman Dakait. Even though his character’s story seemed to end in the first movie, The Indian Express reports that he will be featured in important flashback scenes. These sequences are expected to dive into his backstory and show how he’s linked to the bigger picture. On top of that, the sequel will finally reveal ‘Bade Sahab,’ the mysterious mastermind mentioned in the first part, though the actor playing the role is still being kept a closely-guarded secret.
Scheduled for release on March 19, 2026, the film is set for a monumental box office clash with Yash’s pan-India film, Toxic. Unlike its predecessor, which had a Hindi-only release, Dhurandhar: The Revenge will open simultaneously in five languages: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. With the first film having grossed over Rs 1,200 crore worldwide, the industry is watching closely to see if this grittier, A-rated sequel can set a new benchmark for Indian cinema.
