After battling severe breathing difficulties for several weeks, veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra has been discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy hospital, reported PTI. His family members, Hema Malini and Bobby Deol, have rushed to take him home. This comes a day after rumours of his passing flooded the Internet, and several Bollywood icons went to visit the celebrated Bollywood icon. Dharmendra’s wife, Hema Malini, lashed out at media reports which falsely alleged his passing, triggering condolence messages from Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and celebrated lyricist Javed Akhtar.
This comes after Bollywood actor Govinda was admitted to CritiCare Asia Hospital in Juhu after he lost consciousness at his home. He was rushed to the emergency room in the late hours of Tuesday night after he fainted. He, too, had visited Dharmendra the day before. After complaining of having breathing issues, the Deol patriarch had undergone several tests and was last reported to be in the ICU. However, Bobby Deol was reportedly spotted earlier today, on his way to the hospital to receive his father. A spokesperson from Breach Candy Hospital, Dr Pratit Samdani, told PTI, “Respected Mr Dharmendra Deol ji has been discharged from the Breach Candy Hospital this morning at 7.30 am, and his treatment and management with recovery will continue at home.”
In an interaction with Dr Rajiv Sharma of the hospital, IANS revealed that the ‘Sholay’ star left for home ‘fully satisfied’. In a statement he shared, “Dharmendra ji has gone from the hospital with full satisfaction. His family has taken him home. Everything has been arranged for him.” Sharma also shared that he was in a stable condition and urged the public not to spread false news.
Dharmendra’s 6 decade career
Often called the ‘He-Man’ of Bollywood, Dharmendra has appeared in over 300 films with a career spanning across six decades. He has played a variety of roles, from action heroes to romantic leads. Dharmendra famously appeared as Veeru in Sholay, alongside Amitabh Bachchan and his now-wife Hema Malini. His other notable films include Phool aur Patthar (1996), Seeta aur Geeta (1972) and Yaadon ki Baarat (1973).
The Bollywood actor was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2012 and continued his stint with impactful appearances alongside young heroes like Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. Headlined by Agastya Nanda, Dharmendra will also feature in Ikkis, a movie immortalising the tale of war hero Arun Khetrapal. Popularly loved for their on-screen chemistry, Dharmendra was the star of the show in the Alia Bhatt-Ranveer Singh romantic Drama, Rocky aur Rani ki Prem Kahaani (2023).
In fact, his son, Bobby Deol, lovingly called ‘Lord Bobby’ on social media, has made a power-packed comeback in Bollywood. After appearing in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, Bobby Deol played the intense antagonist against Ranbir Kapoor. Recently, in his element, he embodied the role of a protective, yet powerful father in Aryan Khan‘s Netflix series Ba***ds of Bollywood. While Hema Malini continues her politically charged career, she remains with Dharmendra as his partner.
