Actor Chunky Panday expressed his grief on Instagram, writing, “Dharamji, our superhero. We are blessed to have witnessed the Dharmendra era. He will continue to live in our hearts forever and ever.”

Farhan Akhtar took to Instagram to express his grief, saying, “A big, big loss to the entire film world. To those who make movies and to those who watch them, Dharam ji will forever remain irreplaceable. Thank you for six decades of entertainment. We are fortunate to have experienced your warmth, kindness, generosity, charm, intensity, and wit, on and off the screen. Deepest condolences to the Deol family.”

Rajinikanth called him a “bonafide legend,” while Sharmila Tagore said, “He never forgot his roots and he would talk about it openly. Actor Priyanka Chopra remembered legendary star Dharmendra for his warmth and inspiration in a heartfelt note. “In the year 2001, my first signing amount in the movies came from Vijayta Films… Him and his family, made me feel welcome in the industry, at a time when no one knew me,” she wrote. Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra, Shamita Shetty, and Kajol were among the first to be seen arriving at Dharmendra’s Juhu home, reflecting the deep emotional bond the industry shared with the veteran actor.

Dharmendra had been unwell for some time and was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on November 10 after his condition worsened. Although he was discharged two days later for home treatment, the actor sadly passed away after battling prolonged illness. He is survived by his first wife Prakash Kaur, his second wife Hema Malini, and six children — Sunny, Bobby, Vijeta, Ajeita, Esha, and Ahana.

Union Minister of Mines G Kishan Reddy and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah paid homage to veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra, who passed away on Monday at the age of 89. Abdullah described him as a “friend of Jammu and Kashmir,” recalling the actor’s visits for film shoots and holidays until 1987-88.

Dharmendra, a superstar across six decades, appeared in over 300 films, from Satyakam to Sholay, earning admiration for his charismatic screen presence. He was also an active Member of Parliament representing the BJP. Reddy said, “Besides being a great actor, he was also a Member of Parliament representing the BJP. My condolences to his family, especially his wife and our party MP Hema Malini.”

Omar Abdullah added, “He had not visited Jammu and Kashmir for a long time, but it is true that he was a friend of the region. His contribution to the film industry can never be forgotten.” He also posted on X: “Dharmendra Sahib was such a big part of my childhood Hindi movie experience. Rest in peace sir.”

Late actor Dharmendra’s Aadmi Aur Insaan co-star Saira Banu fondly recalled his love for badminton and said that both Dilip Kumar and he were foodies at heart. While speaking to PTI, she said that she remembers him as family. “Dilip sahab considered him a younger brother,” she said.

Bollywood actress Divya Dutt was seen arriving at Dharmendra’s residence as the actor’s final rites in the Pawan Han crematorium in Vile Parle concluded.

Bollywood actor Sunny Deol, the oldest son of late actor Dharmendra was seen after performing the last rites for his father.

Speaking to IANS from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, BJP MP and Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut offered her condolences after learning about the veteran actor’s death. She said, ” This is a matter of deep sorrow and grief. The entire country is mourning. He wasn’t just a beloved actor for us, but our parents too…”

Congress President, Rahul Gandhi paid a heartfelt tribute to the He-man of Bollywood in a post on X (formerly Twitter). In the post translated from Hindi, the politician wrote, ” The news of the demise of the great actor Dharmendra ji is extremely heart breaking and an irreparable loss for the Indian art world. His unparalleled contribution to cinema over nearly seven decades will always be remembered with respect and love. I offer my heartfelt tribute to Dharmendra ji. In this hour of grief, my condolences are with his bereaved family, friends, and fans.”

Anupam Kher shared an emotional video remembering Dharmendra and wrote, “THE KINDEST MAN EVER. Dharamji was truly the warmest and most generous soul in the Indian film industry. Though known as a He-Man, he had the softest heart and an unmatched spirit of kindness. His large-hearted nature was legendary. He was a fantastic actor with an incredible emotional range, but when people remember a person more for who he was than for what he did on screen, it means he will live on as a part of folklore. We will miss you, Dharamji. You will always be the BESTEST. Om Shanti.” Dharmendra passed away on Monday morning.

Music composer and singer Vishal Dadlani paid tribute to Dharmendra on Instagram, writing, “There will never be another like him. A global icon who always stayed grounded, Dharmendra ji’s warmth, humility, and deep respect for talent and hard work will continue to inspire. My heartfelt condolences to his family and his countless fans.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday mourned the passing of veteran actor Dharmendra, calling it an “irreplaceable loss for Indian cinema.”

In a message shared on X, Shah said Dharmendra, who came from a humble background, created a remarkable identity for himself in the film industry through sheer talent and hard work.

“The passing of Dharmendra ji, who touched the hearts of people for six decades with his exceptional acting, is an irreplaceable loss for the Indian film world,” he wrote.

Shah added that Dharmendra was one of those rare actors who brought every character to life and won the love of audiences across all age groups.

“He will forever remain with us through his work. May God grant him a place at His sacred feet and give strength to his family and fans to bear this grief. Om Shanti,” Shah said.

Dharmendra, who appeared in around 300 films over a 65-year career—from Satyakam to Sholay—passed away in Mumbai on Monday at the age of 89. He would have turned 90 on December 8.

The veteran star will next be seen on screen in the upcoming film Ikkis.

Kapil Sharma paid tribute to Dharmendra on social media. In a heartfelt Hindi message, he wrote that losing Dharmendra felt like losing a father for the second time. He said the actor’s love and blessings would always stay with him, adding that no one knew better than Dharmendra how to win people’s hearts in an instant. Kapil said Dharmendra would remain alive in their hearts forever and prayed for his soul to rest at God’s feet.

Dharmendra acted in more than 300 films over a career that lasted more than 60 years. He became famous for roles in Sholay, Phool Aur Patthar, Satyakam, Chupke Chupke, Dharam Veer and Anupama, among many others. His strong screen presence earned him titles like the “He-Man of Bollywood,” “Garam Dharam,” and “Action King.”

Apart from acting, he also produced films and briefly served as a Member of Parliament. In 2012, he received the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, expressed deep grief over the passing of veteran actor and Padma Bhushan awardee Dharmendra.

Fadnavis said the legendary star, who shone brightly during the golden era of Indian cinema, will always be remembered — from his charming romantic roles to the powerful performances that earned him the title of Bollywood’s “He-Man.”

He added that Dharmendra’s death is a huge loss not only to the Deol family but also to millions of fans across the country. “We share their sorrow and pray for strength for the family during this difficult time. The film industry has lost an icon, and we offer our heartfelt tribute,” the Chief Minister said.
