Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna’s Cocktail 2 has registered a strong Saturday at the box office, building on an already promising opening day. The Homi Adajania-directed romantic comedy drama, which released in theatres on June 19, had opened to mixed reviews from critics and audiences but managed to draw solid audience numbers through its first weekend.
As per Sacnilk, the film recorded a net collection of Rs 13.50 crore in India on day one. On day two, it saw a notable jump in collections, reflecting growing word of mouth and weekend turnout across major film circuits.
Saturday show sees strong growth in India
According to reports, Cocktail 2 registered a net collection of Rs 16.25 crore in India on day two, marking a 20.4 percent growth over its opening day figure. The film played across 10,245 shows on Saturday and recorded an occupancy of around 26 percent, an improvement on its day one numbers as audiences turned up in greater numbers over the weekend.
This takes the film’s total India net collection to Rs 29.75 crore within two days, with the gross figure for the domestic market standing at Rs 35.70 crore. Industry trackers note that the steady climb from Friday to Saturday is a positive sign for a film that leans on its ensemble star cast and nostalgia value as a sequel to the 2012 original, which had eventually closed its run at Rs 74.50 crore net collection.
Overseas markets push worldwide total past Rs 50 crore
Cocktail 2 has also found decent traction in international markets. As per reports, the film collected Rs 8 crore gross overseas on day two, taking its total overseas gross to Rs 15.25 crore within two days of release. Early estimates from the North American market on opening day had pointed to a healthy start, with the film’s urban romantic drama setting drawing diaspora audiences in key cities.
With the domestic and overseas numbers combined, Cocktail 2’s worldwide gross collection has now crossed the Rs 50 crore mark, standing at Rs 50.95 crore at the end of day two, as per industry estimates.
The film, which also features Tiku Talsania in a key role and Pulkit Samrat in a special appearance, carries the legacy of the 2012 original that starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty.
With the first weekend underway, industry experts are of the opinion that the Sunday numbers will be decisive as to whether the film can sustain its momentum into the weekdays. Collections are expected to see more movement on day three, reports Sacnilk, and the coming week should give a better idea of the film’s overall theatrical run.
