American pop singer Britney Spears was arrested earlier this month in California. Highway patrol authorities stopped her vehicle under suspicion as she was swerving through the lanes. Later that night, she was kept in custody for the night and released the next day.
According to the dispatch audio, obtained by TMZ, her actions included ‘sudden braking’, ‘swerving’, and ‘driving with no tail lights’. A black sedan, later identified as a BMW convertible, was cutting through lanes at a very high speed.
Why was Britney Spears arrested?
Not only was Spears showing unruly driving behaviour, but the California Highway Patrol authorities suspected that she was driving under the influence (DUI) and then pulled her over.
Spears was then taken to a hospital and underwent a blood test. Later, she was booked into jail for the night. According to a TMZ report, the ‘Princess of Pop’ was seen getting extremely emotional behind bars. The report also revealed that the cops found Adderall, which she allegedly purchased in Mexico, when she was pulled over by them on the highway. A punishable offence for possessing such substances at the time, she could be facing jail.
However, her hearing has been scheduled for later this year on May 4.
Being among the many famous people arrested, Britney Spears’ mugshot will not be released. Since the authorities are not releasing it, a spokesperson from Ventura County revealed that it is not a requirement by law to reveal the mugshot, as Spears doesn’t pose an apparent threat to the public.
Former assistant and friend opens up after Spear’s arrest
Britney Spears’ former assistant and decades-old friend, Sean Phillip, told Extra that he had heard from the pop star since her arrest. Sean shared that Spears wrote to him in a text, ‘I’m okay,’ after the incident.
However, he called the arrest ‘suspicious’, referring to her newfound financial independence. This came after Spears sold her music catalogue for $2 million, but he still expressed concern for her.
