Even as Bhushan Kumar’s Border 2 breaks box office records, eyeing Rs 300 crore mark next, its producer has announced that the third part of the iconic film will definitely be taken forward, considering, “it is such a big franchise”.
The film opened ahead of Republic Day 2026, and stormed the box office collecting over Rs 100 crore within just three days of its release. The first three days earnings surpassed last year’s biggest hit Dhurandhar, showing its potential to become even a bigger film than the Aditya Dhar directorial.
On January 26, the fourth day of Border 2’s release, the film registered its biggest collections – clocking Rs 59 crore, before seeing a dip on Tuesday with estimated earnings of Rs 20 crore. The unusual Monday earnings could be attributed to the film’s patriotic theme aligning well with Republic Day, the day marking a defining milestone in India’s national journey.
‘Border 2 getting so much love, we will definitely take it forward’
Bhushan Kumar confirmed to HT that “Border 3 will happen in due course,” but won’t go on floors immediately.
“If you bring something back after almost 30 years and it is getting so much love, we will definitely take it forward,” Kumar told the publication.
Just like its predecessor, Border 3 will see Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series Films and JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta’s production house, JP Films coming together.
While the original 1997 film was directed by JP Dutta, the second part was helmed by Anurag Singh. The director of the threequel hasn’t been announced yet.
Meanwhile in between Border 2 and 3, Kumar will be working with Singh for another venture that they were supposed to do before Border 2.
“We are doing a joint venture with his company and my company. He’ll be directing, and it will be something new. Border 3 will happen in due course,” Bhushan Kumar told HT.
More about Border 2
Border 2 stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, and Medha Rana among others. A sequel to the 1997 war film Border, directed by JP Dutta, it is based on the events of 1971 India-Pakistan War. The film opened to packed theatres and while the earnings have dropped, they continue to be in double digits, which is a good news for the patriotic film.
