Border 2 box office collection day 1: Sunny Deol makes a much-awaited return to the big screen with Border 2, stepping back into a franchise that defined an era nearly three decades ago. Chronicling the 1971 India–Pakistan war, the Border 2 revisits themes of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism. The film marks the theatrical debut of Ahan Shetty and Medha Rana, bringing together a multi-starrer with Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Sonam Bajwa playing key roles alongside Deol.

While the Border 2 trailer became easy fodder for memes, it drew mixed reactions from fans. However, the Border 2 movie reviews paint a far more positive picture. Returning after nearly 3 decades, it brings back a warm sense of nostalgia. Sunny Deol’s commanding screen presence and its unapologetic patriotic tone made Border 2 box office collections soar beyond the Dhurandhar benchmark. Released strategically over the January 26 long weekend, Border 2 has struck a chord with war-film-loving fans, greenlit by Sunny Deol‘s timeless charm.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Border 2 had a record-breaking opening day collection for 2026. Grossing Rs 30 crore, the war film beat Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar benchmark, which opened at Rs 28 crore in December 2025.

The much-awaited war film received rave reviews from fans online as they praised Deol for his star presence. While it was headlined by seasoned actor Varun Dhawan, netizens felt that Diljit Dosanjh stole the show. Calling Deol in his ‘lion mode’ social media reviews hyped the film; experts and trade analysts have already declared Border 2 a potential blockbuster. However, not all fans loved the film as it fell short of the legacy set with the 1997 prequel.

Sacnilk also reported a healthy occupancy rate of over 30 per cent across more than 3000 shows in India. Delhi NCR with over 1400 shows, filled 42 per cent of the seats, as fans returned to the theatres for the cinematic war-film.
