Sunny Deol has proven once again that he is the king of the big-screen war epic. His latest release, Border 2, has officially set the box office on fire, bringing in a massive Rs 59 crore on its fourth day. This record-breaking performance happened on Republic Day, marking the film’s highest single-day collection since it hit theaters.

The film has now secured its spot in history as the second-highest Republic Day grosser of all time. While it didn’t quite overtake Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, which holds the top spot with Rs 70.5 crore, it comfortably beat out other major hits like Fighter, Padmaavat, and Sky Force. This surge on Monday has pushed the movie’s total domestic earnings to a staggering Rs 180 crore in just four days.

Border 2 worldwide box office collection

The momentum for Border 2 isn’t just limited to India. Globally, the film has already crashed through the Rs 200 crore club, reaching a worldwide gross of Rs 239 crore, as per Sacnilk. The daily growth has been impressive; after starting with a solid Rs 30 crore on Friday, the numbers jumped by nearly 50 per cent on Sunday and continued to climb through the holiday. If the film maintains this pace throughout the week, trade experts predict it could finish its first seven days with around Rs 450 crore.

Currently, Border 2 is the third-highest-grossing Indian film of the year. However, given how quickly it is racking up numbers, it is expected to challenge for the number one spot very soon. For a movie with a heavy Rs 275 crore budget, these early figures are a massive relief for the producers and a clear sign of a blockbuster hit.

Why the sequel is clicking with fans

Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 is a much more ambitious project than the 1997 original. While the first film was a focused look at the infantry’s struggle, this sequel expands the lens to include the Navy and the Air Force, giving fans a full-scale look at the 1971 war. This “all-inclusive” approach to the battlefield seems to be exactly what the audience wanted.

The casting has also played a huge role in its success. While Sunny Deol remains the soul of the franchise, the addition of younger stars like Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty has helped draw in a new generation of viewers. By blending nostalgia with modern action and a fresh cast, Border 2 has turned into a genuine cultural event that is pulling crowds from every age group.
