Border 2, is set for a record breaking theatrical run with it’s release today, January 23, 2026. Its advanced booking collections are revealing that the heat is already building up at the Box Office and that the feature might just have a so-called dream run across theatres in India.

According to the latest data from industry tracker Sacnilk, the Sunny Deol-starrer has dominated its opening day advance bookings, signaling that the legacy of the 1997 original is still very much alive.

Surpassing the records of blockbusters

Sacnilk reports that Border 2 wrapped up its opening day advance booking with a gross of Rs 12.5 crore (excluding blocked seats). When accounting for blocked seats, that figure jumps to an impressive Rs 17.5 crore. The film managed to sell over 4.09 lakh tickets across 16,221 shows nationwide, showing a massive 101% surge in the final 24 hours leading up to the release.

By reaching these numbers, Border 2 has already knocked down the pre-sale record of Ranveer Singh’s 2025 mega-hit Dhurandhar, which had collected approximately Rs 9.23 crore in advance bookings. However, as noted by Koimoi, it fell just short of Sunny Deol’s personal benchmark set by Gadar 2 in 2023, which had clocked Rs 17.6 crore in pre-sales.

The North Indian stronghold

The geographic breakdown provided by Sacnilk shows that Delhi is the film’s strongest territory, contributing Rs 2.8 crore to the total pre-sales alone. Other states like Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh also showed heavy engagement.

Interestingly, the lion’s share of the revenue was raked in from the standard Hindi 2D format, rather than the more premium formats like IMAX and 4DX. Hindi 2D collections amounted to nearly Rs 12.45 crore which is incredible for pre-sale collections. This suggests that there will be massive turnout from family audiences and fans of the single screen.

Box Office predictions for Border 2

Industry experts are optimistic about the film’s theatrical run. The Indian Express and Sacnilk both project an opening day net collection in the range of Rs 32–35 crore. While a significant portion of the globe has missed out due to a reported ban in Gulf countries over alleged anti-Pakistan themes, the domestic market is expected to more than make up for it.

With Monday being Republic Day, Border 2 enjoys a lucrative four-day extended weekend. Analysts predict the film could comfortably cross the Rs 125 crore mark by Monday night. As NDTV Profit points out, the film’s release strategy was a masterstroke, with the unique release date ensuring it has virtually no competition during one of the biggest movie-going weekends of the year.
