Iconic war film Border is back with a sequel nearly three decades after the release of JP Dutta directorial in 1997. The film is set to release on January 23 to cash in on the long Republic Day weekend. Combining nostalgia with novelty and bringing back old faces along with new, fans are hoping for the film to re-create the original film’s magic.
Border 2 advance bookings open with a bang in India
The huge buzz around Border 2 has translated into a massive advance booking collection for the film. According to the latest Sacnilk data updated on January 20, 2026 at 10:02 am, the film has already sold 53,526 tickets in India after the bookings opened on Monday morning (January 19, 2026). The current collections including block seats stand at Rs 4.56 crore, as per the trade website. With three more days to go before the film’s release, the advance booking collection is expected to further grow.
Advance bookings collections overseas smash records
The advance ticket window opened in US, Germany, Australia and a couple of theatres in Canada on Sunday, a day before India, and going by the collections, there is a huge interest among audience to watch Border 2. A Pinkvilla report claims the film is selling almost double the tickets for opening day compared to War 2 and Dhurandhar, two of the biggest grossers of recent times. The bookings in US and Germany are on the similar lines. Furthermore, in Canada, their largest chain Cineplex is yet to open bookings, which may further boost the sales for the film.
Border 2 star cast: Who’s new, who’s old
After delivering a memorable performance in the original Border, Sunny Deol makes a comeback with Border 2, helmed by Anurag Singh. The trailer of the film has added to the buzz surrounding the film with well-etched characters of Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. Sonam Bajwa and Mona Singh will also play key roles in the film
Set against the backdrop of 1971 India-Pakistan war, Border fans are hoping for the film to write yet another success story.
