One of Bollywood’s biggest singers, Arijit Singh, stunned his fans and followers when he bid farewell to playback singing via a social media post. ‘Calling it off,’ he expressed how he would move away from playback singing, but not music.

Singh’s retirement has not only left his fans disheartened, but also his industry colleagues who share fond memories with him. Speaking to BBC, Rahman had described him as a ‘great musician’. “He’s a producer; he knows the art of producing and he is reckless also, like working from his village, which is very cool,” the ‘Vida Karo’ artist added.

‘Musicians are bad people’ – A common stigma Singh broke

Revealing the common notions about musicians, popularised by the west, Rahman expressed his pride in artists like Shreya Ghoshal and AR Rahman.

Rahman expressed, “I love that. I think any success of any musician is success for music itself. And particularly fighting this whole stigma: ‘Oh, musicians are bad people; they are debauched; they are drinking and smoking’, all that stuff from the previous generation. We are losing that, and we have younger role models like you know, Shreya (Ghoshal) and Arijit, and all of them are clean and give so much to people. That’s a good thing. I feel proud of them.”

Imitiaz Ali’s Tamasha also brought together the three legends of modern Bollywood music – Arijit Singh, Alka Yagnik, and AR Rahman for ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’ – an anthem for lovers and heartbroken alike.

Arijit Singh-AR Rahman projects

The two music legends have collaborated on several memorable projects throughout the years. One of the most popular track being ‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’, with other hits like ‘Enna Sonna’ from OK Jaanu, ‘Naina’ from Dangal, Rait Zara Si from 98, and Tere Ishk Mein, the title song for Kriti Sanon and Dhanush starrer.
