Pongal release Anaganaga Oka Raju opened to mixed reviews on January 14, 2026, with fans applauding Naveen Polishetty’s sharp comic timing but expressing disappointment over its predictable, no-brainer humour.
The Telugu comedy-drama lets Naveen take the centerstage as Raju who comes from a once-wealthy zamindar family. Lazy and entitled, he now wants to marry a rich girl who can help him maintain his lavish lifestyle. Sounds familiar? A lot of viewers felt the same as they watched the film in theatres, yet there was something to hold their attention – Naveen’s impeccable comic timing and screen presence.
If humour is what you are looking at this festive season, this film could be the right choice as it encourages you to leave your brain at home. Directed by Maari and featuring Naveen Polishetty and Meenakshi Chaudhary in lead role, the film is at max a one-time watch. Here’s what netizens are saying about the film.
A film with good intention
Netizens feel Anaganaga Oka Raju has moments that really shine and some clever one-liners, but over all fails to put together a cohesive storyline.
“The intention is to deliver a good satire and honest message, but the conflict ended up being superficial and convenient, as the screenplay lacks any sort of fuel to ignite combustion and really drive the engine to its destination,” says a social media user.

Naveen steals the spotlight with his on-point comic timing
While the film has a very simple and ordinary plot, it is Naveen’s comic timing and funny one-liners that lift it up.
“The first half is mostly entertaining, while the second half also holds, it starts feeling dragged towards the pre-climax due to the thin plot and redundant comedy. However, the climax is handled decently,” read a review.
“Naveen once again proves why he is one of the most entertaining actors today. He carries the film from start to finish and is a delight to watch. The album could’ve been better for a film of this nature,” the review added.
#AnaganagaOkaRaju is a big miss from naveen polishetty. few laughs here and there and nothing works out. an outdated drama with big drag throughout the film. music, story, performances, and action everything is below par. 2/5

Outdated execution
Many felt the idea held promise but the execution could have been better as the narrative turns boring and repetitive after a point.
“Naveen’s performance is decent but familiar. We have seen him do this many times before so it neither excites nor really lands the humor. Meenakshi Chaudhary looks charming and gets an opportunity to showcase herself in a slightly different shade, which works in her favor. Songs could’ve been better,” wrote a social media user, calling the film a ‘strictly average watch.’
Entertaining first half
The film as per popular opinion works well till the first half but the second half makes the narrative dull and ineffective.
“The writing is fast-paced, feeling almost like a high-energy stand-up routine. The jokes come one after another, making it very easy to stay engaged,” noted an X user.
“A few minutes into second half, the thin storyline becomes more obvious. Because there aren’t many subplots, some of the humor in the second half starts to feel repetitive. There are moments where the movie feels like it’s losing steam, but it usually recovers quickly with a well-timed gag,” the review added.
Naveen carries the entire movie on his shoulders
A user noted that the movie has been designed primarily as a festive entertainer but mostly rides entirely on Naveen’s shoulders.
“The actual story finds its footing only in the second half, where the film takes a surprising turn. The climax, in particular, shifts from pure comedy to emotional territory,” the social media user added.
