Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul today asked organisations working in the field of skill development to accord priority to short-term computer training programmes for locals and help them get employment while preventing migration from hills.

He gave the piece of advice to Ramesh Petwal, who heads an organisation training youngsters under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, a Raj Bhawan release said.

Computer training should be given priority under skill development programmes as it would be extremely helpful in operating tourism promotion initiatives like the Home Stay scheme, Paul said as Petwal called on him at Raj Bhawan along with a trained batch of youngsters.

This can help people get a source of income at home and also help check migration from the hill areas, the Governor said.

Noting that training in hospitality and yoga could also be beneficial, he said organising short term training programmes in yoga should be focused upon as there was growing interest in the ancient system of physical and spiritual well being.

The team of youngsters who came to meet the Governor comprised youths from Tehri, Chamoli and Dehradun districts who have been trained for 45 days and are now working in various organisations in Dehradun.

The youths were trained in sales, marketing, health, manufacturing and textile sectors and are getting immediate employment, Petwal told the Governor.
