Amid rising cases of suicide by students of coaching centres in the city, the institutes are now considering to shift bases to other areas.

“We are seriously considering shifting our institutes to some far-off isolated areas away from the city,” director of an institute said on the condition of anonymity.

Shifting the institutes would certainly be a disadvantage as their presence renders a distinguished identity to this city and generates employment, he said.

However, it would be advantageous for the students as they would stay inside a campus that would have academic as well as accommodation needs and accessories, the director said.

On recent cases of suicides, he said parents should not burden their children and allow them to study what they want.

Eight students taking coaching have committed suicide this year in Kota. Last year, the number of suicide cases involving such students was 19, following which guidelines to training academies were given.

Recently, Kota District Collector Ravi Kumar Surpur had written an emotional letter to parents of over 1.50 lakh students in coaching institutes here, asking them not to force their expectations on the children.

Expressing deep regret over the recent incident of suicides in Kota, another director said institutes should not be targeted for these incidents.

“We can take care of them till they are in the institute’s premises but it becomes difficult to keep an eye when they are outside. The option of shifting now seems to be convenient because we are committed to the welfare of the students and their studies,” he said. PTI CORR AYP ZMN DIP 05142316
