JEE Main 2026 Jan 28 Exam Analysis Out Shift 1 Review: The JEE Main 2026 January 28 Shift 1 concluded at 12 noon on Wednesday, and early student responses indicate that the paper was moderately difficult with a mix of straightforward and calculative questions. As per initial reactions as shared with NDTV, many aspirants felt that the exam was balanced, but that class 11 fundamentals were especially helpful in answering the questions from all three core subjects-Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.

Many students mentioned that those with a solid grasp of the basics from earlier classes could find the test manageable. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the JEE Main, started the exam from 9 am to 12 noon.

What students say about Maths, Chemistry Physics

Aashutosh Kumar Ojha, while talking to NDTV, stated that students with strong Class 1 basics will find the paper easier. “After taking up the paper, I felt that the paper was overall moderate. If your Class 11 basics are clear, the paper will be quite easy,” he said.

Initial responses also indicated that the Mathematics section was difficult in the morning shift. It also required more time because of its calculative nature and number-heavy questions. Many students also reported that they could solve Physics and Chemistry questions with relative confidence, Maths demanded more careful problem-solving, as per a report by Siksha.

On the other hand, both Physics and Chemistry were generally seen as moderate in difficulty. Aspirants stated that questions in Physics had a good mix of conceptual and formula-based questions, whereas Chemistry included topics that were familiar with the curriculum. This balance helped many students maintain an overall steady speed during the examination, especially for those who had prepared in depth across all subjects.

Time Management and steps ahead for aspirants

A common theme in student reactions was the requirement of effective time management, especially for some sections that required more time. With the initial analysis in place, students awaiting later shifts can adjust their preparation strategies, focusing more on exam timing. The NTA is expected to announce the official answer key and response sheets in the coming days, which will allow candidates to calculate their probable scores.
