The Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) Company Limited has recently awarded an order of approximately Rs 580 Crore to the consortium of Siemens Limited India and Siemens AG, Germany to implement electrification of the 39.2-kilometer Metro Express Link in Ahmedabad, according to a statement issued by MEGA.
The Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) Company Limited has recently awarded an order of approximately Rs 580 Crore to the consortium of Siemens Limited India and Siemens AG, Germany to implement electrification of the 39.2-kilometer Metro Express Link in Ahmedabad, according to a statement issued by MEGA. The line, which is currently under construction will connect Ahmedabad in two corridors, East-West corridor and North-South Corridor. The electrification of the new double-track Metro line will be supervised by Siemens. The company will also provide a SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system for monitoring and controlling the traction power.

He further said that in addition of this project, Siemens is also executing electrification projects for six Metro cities in India. The other five cities apart from Ahmedabad are Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Nagpur and Greater Noida.
According to the statement issued by the company, the Metro rail system which is the most efficient mode of transportation will now boost the infrastructure sector of Gujarat. The state is all set to create a world-class Mass Rapid Transit system which will contribute significantly to develop the city.
MEGA, which is a special purpose vehicle company, was established by the state government on February, 2010.
The phase-I of the project was approved in 2014 by the Central government, which ranges over 39 kilometres. Out of 39.2 km, 6.335 km will be underground while the rest of the line will be elevated. The project is comprised of 32 stations and it will connect the city with two corridors – North-South and East West. The North-South corridor, which is 18.5 km long, will have 15 stations whereas the 20.7 km long East-West Corridor will have 17 stations.
The project is being constructed by part funding from the Central government and a soft loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
According to an official of MEGA, initially attendants would be appointed to make sure that no unfortunate incident takes place. Though most of the functioning will be automated, the attendants will intervene if need arises.
