There is no denying it: Bluetooth speakers are enjoying widespread popularity these days for the simple reason that they allow you to carry your music anywhere and help cut wire clutter too. Most of these devices come with good build quality and they offer ample amplification, plus enhanced connectivity. French consumer electronics firm Zoook, which derives its name from the popular Caribbean word “Zouk” which means festival, has debuted a portable and rugged waterproof wireless speaker, called ZB-Rocker Armor XL, in the Indian market. It retails for R3,749, comes in an attractive design and is packed with good features. Let us check out its performance.
The best thing I like about Bluetooth connectivity is that you can say goodbye to all the cable mess and enjoy good audio without any fuss. Zoook Rocker Armor XL is a Bluetooth-enabled device that can easily connect with external devices to play your favourite music. You can connect devices like smartphones, tablets, computers and MP3 players.
The Black review unit that we received was pretty lightweight at 650g. It is portable and at the same time pretty rugged; being waterproof you can carry it to the seaside or a pool party. Company officials inform that the Zoook Rocker Armor XL has been designed in such a way that you will get to hear only clear sound and no other distortion. We will come to that later, first a look at some of its key features.
The speaker system can connect with up to two audio sources simultaneously, giving the user more scope for entertainment. Since the speaker can easily connect with the last connected device; switching devices will not be a problem anymore. To switch the playback device, pause/stop the playback on the currently streaming device and start the playback from the other device directly. After connecting with the new device, Zoook can be controlled from your Bluetooth speaker itself.
The speaker has a Lithium-ion Polymer 4400 mAh battery, which has a charge time of approximately five to seven hours and music playing time up to eight hours. Zoook claims to deliver best audio quality in comparison to any rival brand, up to three times the price of Zoook Rocker Armour XL. If you can find one with better audio quality, Zoook is ready to take back the speaker within seven days.
I used the Zoook Rocker Armor XL for streaming music from my Dell laptop and mobile phone. Starting with some Hindi film music as a warm-up, the Zoook speaker exhibited a clear and detailed sound, with rigid, full bass lines, and a supple-yet-accurate mid-range. The tones were clear and precise upfront, with a refined, smooth finish. The best part: It cuts off the background noise, saturation and distortion, offering audio with good clarity.
The Zoook Rocker Armor XL has 30 watts of output power. In my assessment, it is a decent sounding speaker that rivals much larger speaker systems.
Output power: 10W x 2 + 10W = 30W
Drivers: 2 x 50 mm subwoofers and
1 x 45 mm Driver
Bass enhancement: 2 x Passive Bass Radiators
Signal to noise ratio: Greater than 85db
Wireless range: Upto 10 metres
Frequency: 40 Hz to 20 kHz
Estimated street price: R3,749
