Chennai-headquartered software products company Zoho Corporation, with significant global presence, is targeting to cross 100 million user-base in five years’ time.

The company, which has got 15 million users at present across 120 countries, is in direct competition with biggies like Google and Microsoft as far as software products on the cloud are concerned. It has chalked out aggressive expansion plans, including setting up a data centre in India, besides launching new products to achieve the set goals. Recently, the company had opened an R&D centre comprising 120 people at Thenkasi in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to reporters after the launch of two new products, New Zoho Mail and Zoho SalesIQ, both made in India, Sridhar Vembu, CEO, said that from serving the world out of India, businesses are moving to making software in India.

“Our vision has always been to be a global product company. This meant building world-class software, competing with world leaders like Google and Microsoft, and supporting global customers—all from India. Today we have over 15 million users spread across 120 countries, and a product portfolio broader and more integrated than that of any cloud software company, ” he said.

Despite the aggressive expansion plans, Zoho will stay away from getting any VC funding. According to Vembu, raising venture capital fund would result in change of control of the companies, which would in turn affect their ability to bring out another successful product. e said that for a company with one successful product is funded with Venture Capital investors, it would be hard to build a second product. The company would be under pressure to develop new products to continue the growth. However, the products developed under pressure would not be a big success. “ We make money in business and we will invest that for our expansion,” he said.

Vembu said Zoho’s cloud-based business operating system, has been getting acceptance from clients across the globe is set to give competition to Microsoft and Google in the country. Like global companies such as Microsoft, and Google, Zoho offers email hosting, document management, office suits, product management, and customer relationship management for companies.
