On Friday, India Yamaha Motor (IYM) launched the all-new MT-15 (155cc) motorcycle in India priced at Rs 1.36 lakh, ex-showroom. It is powered by a liquid-cooled, four-stroke, six-speed 155cc fuel-injected engine along with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) system on a Deltabox frame. “The new MT-15 triggers agile and strong-feeling acceleration and flaunts standout traits of the styling with enhanced control postures along with A&S clutch and single-channel ABS,” the company said in a statement.

The engine produces maximum power of 14.2kW (19.3PS) at 10,000rpm and maximum torque of 14.7Nm at 8,500rpm. The company added the new MT-15 strikes the ideal balance of agile acceleration, agile handling and advanced design, and “is targeted at young generation who are transitioning from lower-end two-wheelers and are simultaneously looking for snappy rides with maximum feel of torque and acceleration.”
Motofumi Shitara, chairman, Yamaha Motor India group of companies, said, “Today’s customers look for variety and diverse range of products. We at Yamaha will always try to introduce new biking experiences for our customers, and excite them with products and services that exceed expectations. Yamaha will offer three motorcycle series in India under ‘The Call of the Blue’ campaign: the R series, FZ series and the new MT series.”

The evolution of the MT DNA in international market has contributed to the radical design of the new MT-15. The motorcycle has a minimum ground clearance of 155mm, weight (with oil and a full fuel tank) of 138kg, the VVA system claims to provide sharp top-end power, a bypass-type thermostat for the cooling system to reduce engine warm-up time, and it has a muffler with three-stage expansion chamber for a clear sound at high engine speeds. “All these features enable the MT-15 motorcycle to respond exactly as the rider intends to,” the company said.
