With US President Barack Obama expected to arrive in India next weekend, the US intelligence and security agencies have already descended in New Delhi to carry out security drills and sanitise the places and areas he will visit.
Though both India and the US are silent on the itinerary and the agenda, the US secret service is leaving nothing to chance as they prepare a foolproof security mechanism for the US President during his visit along with the Indian security agencies.
Obama accompanied by a high level official delegation and the first lady Michelle Obama will reach on January 25.
According to sources, an advanced team of US secret service has already landed in India and are working out security protocol and details of the visit, including scanning of some five star hotels where the US delegation is likely to be put up. Obama will be the first US President to be the chief guest at India’s Republic Day parade on January 26. It is understood that he is likely to fly into India on January 25 and hold bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The entire route from the air force technical area, where the US president will land and the US Air Force One will be stationed, will be sanitised and high number of security personnel will be deployed. However, the deployment and surveillance will be highest when Obama travels down the Rajpath and be seated in the VVIP enclosure along with President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Modi.
Teams of US Marines and Indian security personnel will be on vigil during this entire time. A Roof Team – specialists in providing sniper cover from roof tops and a dog squad is also said to be part of the security details being put in place by US authorities.
