After former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi accused incumbent Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of posting policemen around the trees at his official 1, Anne Road, residence in the city to stop him from plucking fruits, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday lashed out at the Janata Dal (United) for stooping to a new low in electoral politics.
“It’s a stumped in situation. Now, will the politics of the JD (U) come down to who will eat mangoes and who will eat litchi or who will eat jackfruit. And look at what is the political situation there,” BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli told ANI.
“Mr. Nitish Kumar is seeking an alliance with Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav. They are trying to merge together after calling him, the one who was running a ‘jungle raaj’ in Bihar. So, you can see what kind of political standards are there and political principle. And, the people of Bihar can surely see through all of this,” he added.
According to reports, 24 policemen are currently safeguarding 100 litchi, mango and jackfruit trees on the property, which Manjhi continues to occupy despite not being the chief minister.
Manjhi had refused to vacate the official chief minister’s residence after demitting office in February, claiming that he had not been granted an alternative and suitable accommodation.
As a result of which, incumbent Nitish Kumar works from 7, Circular House, which was allotted to him in his capacity as former chief minister.
Manjhi had after being ousted from the JD (U) floated the ‘Hindustani Awam Morcha’.
The Hindustani Awam Morcha has been formed to counter the JD (U) ahead of Bihar Assembly polls to be held later this year.
