On Thursday, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) launched the Fortuner TRD Sportivo, the sportier edition of the Fortuner, arguably one of the most celebrated SUVs in the Indian market. It is available in pearl white colour, 4×2 AT variant only, and is priced Rs 31.01 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with sequential and paddle shifts. Changes in the Fortuner TRD Sportivo—TRD is short for Toyota Racing Development, the in-house tuning shop for all Toyota cars—include front and rear bumper spoilers, TRD radiator grille, new 18-inch TRD alloy wheels, badging on the exterior and red stitch accents on the interior.

Since its launch in 2009, the Fortuner has dominated the premium SUV segment in the country, and has consistently maintained 75% or more market share, selling over 1,18,000 units in total. In November 2016, Toyota had launched the upgraded Fortuner, which has been selling about 2,000 units every month and has clocked cumulative sales of over 21,000 units.
