Xiaomi backed Chinese company XiaoYi has unveiled Yi M1 which is a micro mirrorless camera. The micro four thirds mirrorless camera looks promising of a good performance at a budget. The camera boasts of a 20 megapixel Sony imaging sensor. It has a maximum sensitivity of 25,600 ISO. The camera does not have a built-in flash or even an electronic viewfinder. With a 3-inch touchscreen of resolution 720 x 480, the user interface appears to be a camera app. The camera M1 has the ability to shoot 50 MP photos and record 4K video at a rate of 30 frames each second. The build quality looks very similar to Leica, which might not be a bad thing. The Yi M1 camera contains a Sony IMX269 image sensor. Xiaomi wants the users to use the touchscreen more and therefore has only two buttons for control. It also pairs with smartphones which make it easier to have control access.
Xiaomi has become a big force in the smartphone market. It is now considering other areas to explore. Apart from the camera, it offers air purifiers and cookers. It reportedly has planned to launch the latest air purifier in India too. While moving from action cameras to a commercial camera, Xiaomi seems to have made it clear that the day is not far away when it might just launch its own DSLRs. Xiaomi’s M1 action camera also has the 12-40mm f3.5 – 5.6 zoom lens or the dual lens option. A portrait lens of 42.5mm, f1.8 will also be available. When it comes to pricing, the Xiaomi brand’s biggest forte is that itself. From September 23, the Yi M1 mirrorless will be available in China through the online retailer JD.com. As of now, there is no news on the availability in India or any other country, but still if sold here, the price may go up which will render the budget pricing, pointless.
