Xiaomi has silently launched a new variant of the Redmi 5 that was launched in China last year. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 now comes in a 4GB RAM variant in China at a price of 1,099 yuan (roughly Rs 11,050). Apart from the bump in RAM, the smartphone bears exactly similar specifications to the original variant launched last year, alongside the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 features an 18:9 display as its biggest highlight.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 now has three RAM variants – 2GB, 3GB, and 4GB – along with two internal storage options – 32GB and 64GB. The new Redmi 5 4GB variant comes with 32GB of inbuilt storage. The smartphone is now listed on Xiaomi’s Chinese website at a price of 1,099 yuan, as we mentioned. It is worth mentioning that Xiaomi Redmi 5 is currently available only in the Chinese markets.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 Specifications
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is a dual SIM smartphone that runs Android 7.0 Nougat-based MIUI 9 out-of-the-box. It sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor, paired with either 2GB or 3GB or 4GB of RAM and 16GB/ 32GB of inbuilt storage options.
For the cameras, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 sports a f/2.2 aperture 12-megapixel camera with an LED flash, PDAF on the rear side. There is a 5-megapixel camera sensor with Beautify 3.0 on the front. Below the rear camera island is the fingerprint sensor. The smartphone comes with a 3300mAh battery under the hood. The connectivity options on the Xiaomi Redmi 5 include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.2, A-GPS, a 3.5mm audio jack, and Micro-USB among others.
