While Xiaomi at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 announced that the successor to Mi MIX 2 – the Mi MIX 2S – will be launched at an event scheduled for March 27 in China, its another flagship smartphone – Mi 7 that has so far been reported to be unveiled at MWC 2018 is now allegedly delayed further. The Xiaomi Mi 7 is still in the works and one of its highlighted features is causing the delay in launch, as per a report. The Mi 7 is said to come with an in-display fingerprint sensor, similar to the tech seen on the recently launched Vivo X20 Plus UD. This technology is still in the testing phase and is believed to be causing the delay. This also means that there are chances the physical button will be done away with and the display of the Mi 7 will have narrower bezels.
According to a Weibo post by a tipster who goes by Mocha RQ, the Xiaomi Mi 7 can be delayed until June this year. it was earlier reported that the Mi 7 will be launched in April this year. The launch of Mi 7 in June is likely to coincide with the launch of the OnePlus 6, flagship smartphone from the rival company OnePlus. The Mi 7 will sport the in-display fingerprint sensing technology that will omit the need of a physical button, however, it is still being developed causing the delay. The Weibo post further reveals more details about the Xiaomi Mi 7 that include top-of-the-line specifications.
The Xiaomi Mi 7 is pegged to launch with significant camera and Artificial Intelligence (AI) improvements. The Mi 7 is said to have a dual camera setup at the back comprising of two 16-megapixel sensors. The camera will feature AI capabilities such as face recognition. The smartphone will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with 8GB of RAM. It is expected to house a 6-inch OLED edge-to-edge display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The internals of the Mi 7 is said to be backed by a 3170mAh battery with support for wireless charging and fast charging.
Talking about the design of the smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 7 is reported to have a glass back to facilitate wireless charging. There will also be some minor bumps to the design aspects of the phone, including the ‘notch’ on the top like the one on iPhone X, according to some reports. However, some leaked renders of the smartphone did not reveal the ‘notch’ on the top of the smartphone. There could be a possibility that Xiaomi may launch two models of the Mi 7 – one with the top ‘notch’ and one with just thin bezels.
