WhatsApp update: New feature lets you pin favourite chats on top, here’s how

Social messaging application, WhatsApp has been testing several new features in order to make it more convenient for its users. The Facebook-owned application is one of the most widely used apps in India and the world. This also means that the same app is the reason for numerous notifications on your smartphones. Messages from contacts you want to ignore or unwanted texts from family ‘groups’, can make it really hard to keep up with the important messages from your favourite contacts. In order to solve the issue, WhatsApp could soon give you the ability to pin those contacts on the top of the list.

According to a report in Android Police, WhatsApp’s beta version on Android gives users the ability to pin up to three conversations right at the top. The report said that the feature is now live for WhatsApp Android beta users which means, if you are on beta 2.17.162 and 2.17.163, you should be able to find the feature. In our last check, we found the version working on these versions.

How can you pin a chat at the top?
All you need to do is, open WhatsApp and tap-hold on the chat. After this, you will get a pin icon right next to the delete, mute and archive option which feature at the top. Select the pin option, and the chat will move at the top of the list. Users will be able to pin a maximum of three chats at the top.

If you wish to unpin a particular chat, long press on the chat. You will then see an unpin option on top. Select the option and the chat will move down the chain of threads. If you have pinned a conversation in WhatsApp, it will go to the top and it won’t matter if other messages keep coming in. The new feature on WhatsApp is a convenient functionality for people who are usually swamped with random messages. It means you can keep important threads like a particular friend, or office and family groups.

It is important to note that the feature is currently available on WhatsApp beta version only and not on the regular Android app. Users will have to be a beta tester on Android smartphones. If you want to become one, you need to go to WhatsApp on the Play Store. You will have to scroll down where you will get an option to sign up as a beta tester. It takes a few minutes to get signed up for the beta version, after which you can use it by reinstalling the app. You can download the beta version of the app from the website www.apkmirror.com also.
