Apple is all set to launch its latest iPhone in the media event scheduled today in San Francisco. Putting to rest every rumour surrounding the launch of the new iPhone, Apple had earlier confirmed that it will have a media event on September 7, 2016. If speculations are to be believed, Apple will expectedly introduce the iPhone 7 and also the new Apple Watch. The tech giant has sent out media invites for the event scheduled on September 7 in San Francisco. Reports and rumours suggest that Apple will unveil the successors to the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus with better camera features and upgraded hardware but the design will almost be the same as the previous variant. Even though, Apple never reveals its plans before announcing the products, the date and timing of the media event is an indication of the new smartphone and it is quite possible that it will be named iPhone 7. The company generally alternates between launching upgrades and products, so it is expected that the normal rhythm will be broken but also that major updates should be present n the new model and also call it as iPhone 7. But if reports and rumours are to be believed, it can be said that there will not be much of a change in this version, instead, bigger changes are expected in the iPhone launch in 2017.
The online analytical reports suggest that that Apple’s actually not going to offer that much of an overhaul to the new smartphones and may even look like the previous versions (iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus). Except, it is highly expected according to reports that the new iPhone will have a redesigned ‘Home’ button. Reports indicate that the Apple iPhone 7 will be up for pre-orders on September 9 and may be available in stores on September 16. The bokeh effect in the media invite is an indication of the fact that the phone will have dual camera features, in at least one of the three variants expected- iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7 Pro. Faster chips to a larger battery, multiple reports suggest many changes that are expected in the iPhone 7. According to the reports, the phone may have the 256 GB storage option as well. The new variants will run iOS 10, which is the latest version of Apple’s mobile OS.
Though huge changes are not expected this year in the iPhone 7, many reports suggest that Apple might let go of its headphone jack, and instead replace it with another speaker. The lightning port which currently features at the bottom of the phone to be used for charging and data transfer might be upgraded to be used as a headphones jack as well. Though that will be a good change and use of space, it will render headphones in the earlier versions of the iPhone, useless. People have reacted, saying that it will not be very user-friendly. Even Steve Wozniak, Apple’s co-founder told an Australian newspaper that Apple shouldn’t remove the headphone jack especially if there is no change in the sound quality over Bluetooth headphones.
Apple has seen a slow growth in sales in 2016, and that has made the investors worried after the reports. If such reports turn out to be true, iPhone 6 users may not get for the new phone with these updates and instead wait for 2017 for Apple to launch another phone. This will be a jolt for Apple since most of its revenue is generated from iPhone sales. But then, Apple has always managed to surprise its consumers in a big or a small way, so there is still hope.
