Vodafone on Thursday announced that it has begun rolling out the Voice-over-LTE, or VoLTE, services in three circles – Mumbai, Delhi – NCR, and Gujarat. The Vodafone VoLTE call network will rely on the 4G networks and work only on the smartphones that support 4G VoLTE connectivity. With this move, Vodafone becomes the third telecom company to roll out the VoLTE calling facility after Reliance Jio and Airtel. The Vodafone VoLTE services will be available to the customers free of cost in Delhi – NCR, Mumbai, and Gujarat circles, while a wider rollout is expected ‘soon’.
As we said, in order to enjoy the VoLTE services, the Vodafone customers – prepaid and postpaid – will require having a 4G VoLTE-supported smartphone. While almost all the smartphones currently support VoLTE calls, you can check if your smartphone supports Vodafone VoLTE on the company’s dedicated website, as well. Vodafone has enlisted some smartphones that currently support its VoLTE services – OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 5, OnePlus 3T, OnePlus 3, Nokia 8, Nokia 5, Honor View 10, Honor 9i, Honor 7X, Honor 8 Pro, Xiaomi Redmi 4, Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, Xiaomi Mi Max 2, Samsung C9 Pro, and Samsung J7 Nxt.
Post the verification process, it must be ensured that there is a Vodafone SIM card inserted into the phone, of course, and the default data/ Internet SIM card is set to Vodafone. In case of Xiaomi phones, the users will need to enable the ‘VoLTE enabled’ setting in the mobile networks settings. After all these steps, you will start seeing the Vodafone VoLTE connection on the status bar of your phone.
While the above procedure is for the Android smartphones, the iPhones do not support Vodafone VoLTE services as of now. However, iOS is expected to receive an update to support the VoLTE services offered by Vodafone in coming days. In order to enable the VoLTE services on iPhone, the users will need to go to Settings, followed by tapping on the Mobile Data Options, and lastly, Enable 4G and Voice & Data setting. Enable the last setting on your iPhone and the users will be able to use Vodafone VoLTE as soon as it is introduced on iOS.
With the VoLTE services, Vodafone customers will be able to make HD calls with a simultaneous 4G data network to improve the calls. There will be more focus to the human voice than the background noise in the VoLTE calls. “In line with our commitment to introduce the best of breed technologies and consistently enhance customer experience, we are delighted to launch our VoLTE service across our three key circles of Mumbai, Delhi-NCR and Gujarat. We will be expanding the Vodafone VoLTE experience in several more circles shortly,” said Sunil Sood, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Vodafone India, commenting on the launch of VoLTE services.
