The V15 Pro has powerful camera performance, slick software and impressive spec sheet, making it a hot pick in the mid-range segment

Mobile phones have become incredibly advanced in a relatively short amount of time. There is significant innovation taking place in both hardware and software, making these devices truly powerful pocket computers. Notably, their cameras have become super-powerful, powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI), making them intelligent and interactive. Without doubt, the credit must go to numerous Chinese handset makers that have brought flagship features (otherwise found only in high-end devices) mainstream and within the reach of the masses.

Take, for instance, Vivo. This handset maker has been present in India only for five years. During this span, it has managed to carve a strong brand presence for itself with its devices that are a powerful blend of aesthetic looks, great features and performance, especially in the camera department.

The best part—its devices are aggressively priced and are a hot pick in the mid-range segment. Vivo’s latest device, V15 Pro, is attracting a lot of consumer interest these days. We take a look at some of its features and overall performance.

The V15 Pro comes with numerous alluring features such as the pop-up selfie camera, AI triple rear camera, in-display fingerprint scanning technology and Super AMOLED display in the V series. The device is powered with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 675AIE octa-core processor supported by an enhanced CPU and GPU, which consumes less power while delivering fluid performance. With an almost bezel-less 91.64% screen-to-body ratio, the smartphone is available in two colour variants—Topaz Blue and Ruby Red, and a memory-storage combo of 6GB + 128GB at a modest price of `28,990.

Probing the innards, the V15 Pro is equipped with a 32MP pop-up selfie camera that will remind you of the hugely popular NEX device. The unique pop-up front camera, housed within the phone body, smoothly emerges from the top of the phone and retracts once the selfie has been clicked. The phone features an AI-enabled 48 million Quad Pixel sensor (12 million effective pixels) + 8MP + 5MP triple rear camera with the 1/2.25-inch sensor. The V15 Pro uses quad-pixel technology, which combines 4 adjacent pixels into one ‘super pixel’ delivering high-quality 12MP photos while ensuring clearer and sharper low light photography. The powerful combination of 8MP AI-enabled Super Wide-Angle camera, a 5MP Depth camera and an upgraded AI algorithm allows for a wider 108-degree view that results in better picture composition.

The powerful hardware is complemented with AI to make professional photo-taking a breeze. The all-new AI Super Night Mode makes shaky night shots a thing of the past, as consumers can now capture amazing night scenery without a tripod or a DSLR camera. Besides creating great low-light shots, the V15 Pro camera is capable of optimising each shot by detecting the photo conditions. It comes equipped with upgraded AI Body Shaping to AI Portrait Lighting features for enhancing the photography experience. After identifying photo scenes, the AI suggests appropriate filters, and with time learns to produce better results.

Without doubt, the V15 Pro’s powerful camera makes it stand out in the market. In actual usage, it captures images with good target exposure and a wide dynamic range, recording both good highlight and shadow detail even in difficult high-contrast situations. The device is good for capturing still images as well as video. It takes brilliant shots that are crisp enough for a Facebook or Instagram post.

Overall, the V15 Pro not only has a spec list that’s the equal of any high-end phone out there, but it comes with enough new features to make it a truly exciting phone. Highly recommended.
