A rocking chair which comes with inbuilt speakers and sub-woofer to enable you enjoy your music or movies to the fullest
A couple of days back, I received a call from an Urban Ladder executive, asking me whether I was keen to review a new chair introduced by them in the market. Now, how could a piece of furniture possibly interest me? I make a sincere attempt to update our readers about the latest mobile phone, notebook computer, tablet, TV, camera or a wireless speaker in town, but certainly not a new car or a fridge; furniture would be the last thing on my mind. But the lady on the other side insisted that their X-Rocker chair, along with speakers and sub-woofer integrated into it, is a judicious mix of modern audio technology and quality furniture and that it would be of relevance to the newspaper’s readers. Frankly, I had little choice but to relent and the chair soon arrived at my doorstep.
I have been using the X-Rocker chair for two weeks now and believe me, it is the perfect way to indulge yourself and celebrate your alone time. X-Rocker is not just a product but an experience; whether you are a music lover or a movie buff, the speakers and sub-woofer integrated into the chair ensure that you will get a musical treat. Before I dwell into the nuances of this new-age furniture and the benefits it offers, a few words on the people promoting it.
Nowadays, Indian home-makers are looking for a solution that could help them make beautiful homes, without too much hassle. Specifically, there is a big need for good quality, well-designed, competitively priced and dependable furniture and in a short span, Urban Ladder has captured people’s imagination with its good quality yet decently priced offerings. It has emerged as India’s leading online furniture and decor company which has made great furniture simple to own. On the personal front too, my better half’s never-ending search for modern furniture has ensured that two fabric sofas from this Bangalore-based firm occupy our drawing room real estate as well.
Back to the X-Rocker. Unwrapped from its extensive packaging, I installed it in my TV room, right in front of the big-screen Sony television. It is my retreat zone where I relax by listening to soothing music or simply watch a movie and shut out the outside world. The chair’s racy red trim contrasts perfectly with the black and grey frame and seat, making it a chic addition to your bachelor pad or den. It comes in a ergonomic and foldable design for ease of storage and portability. There is full back support and side control panel with volume, bass control and band switch.
For the first few days, I used the X-Rocker simply as a chair to watch the ongoing ICC World Cup cricket matches, with no wires attached and no connections with any audio device whatsoever. Although rocking does not make up for strength-training exercises such as lifting weights, the X-Rocker, in my opinion, will bring a safe activity to people who live an otherwise sedentary lifestyle. When rocking, blood pressure falls and respiration slows, yet energy is being exerted in shifting your body weight back and forth. As a result, it is a good exercise for the mind, body and spirit, and helps those with sedentary lifestyle to achieve muscle tone through manageable, non-weight bearing exercise. Put simply, instead of lying in bed, opt to rock instead with the X-Rocker!
However, this Urban Ladder furniture comes in its true form when I brought it alive by plugging it with a power source. It is compatible with a wide range of audio inputs—plug in your phone, laptop, iPod, TV or gaming console using the included cables, or simply pair a device wirelessly via Bluetooth. At my end, I paired it with my phone via Bluetooth connection and played few songs stored in my device. It was then that this chair came to life and began to weave its magic. The speakers and sub-woofer integrated into the chair ensure that you don’t merely hear your music and movies…you feel them too.
I played Elton John’s Sacrifice, Eric Clapton’s Tears in Heaven, Lata Mangeshkar’s Aye Dil E Nadan from Razia Sultan, among others, and I must say that I was pretty impressed with the chair’s audio performance. There was fantastic clarity and accuracy in the music; the sound emitted was not offensive nor intimidating, instead it somewhat eliminated the outside world. There is no distortion or exaggeration of instruments or vocals. The audio from the chair’s speakers will put you at the centre of a fantastically immersive experience. Technically speaking, there is a 2.1 speaker system with sub-woofer and RMS output is 2W x 2 (satellite speakers) + 4.5 W (sub-woofer).
Like I said, the X-Rocker is compatible with a wide range of audio inputs. You can plug in your audio devices using the included cables, or simply by pairing a device wirelessly via Bluetooth. There are separate controls for volume and bass. The chair comes with a USB port to charge devices, as well as a headphone port for personal use. You can also link multiple chairs together with a shared audio input, for when you have got friends over.
Without doubt, Urban Ladder folks have come up with a great piece of furniture which will not only add to the beauty of your home, it will enable you to enjoy your leisure time in the company of your choice of music or movies. Highly recommended!
