The health-related wearable market in India is witnessing an uptake, especially in metro cities with people using smartwatches and fitness bands to track their fitness levels. Companies such as Misfit, GOQii, Garmin among others have introduced products targeted at this segment of the market. And, the new one to enter the fray is Finland-based firm Health Care Success (HCS) that has recently launched a fitness tracker called Tango Wellness Motivator, in an exclusive partnership with Amazon India. Priced at Rs 4,990, the band supports 24-hour fitness data monitoring, step count, number of calories burnt, distance travelled and sleep. The band is equipped with 3D accelerometer motion sensor and it is CE certified. We used this device for over a week and here are our views.
In a fitness band, one looks for things like design, adjustment with wrist, battery life, display quality, easy synching and finally ease of use. In all these areas, Tango Wellness Motivator does not disappoint. The device has a simple design which looks elegant. The black translucent panel on the top is slightly curved on the sides. On the right, there is a soft rubber button which can be pressed to access the data. A double tap on the display lights up the screen and you can access data and use different modes of the device.
The underside has two small metallic pogo contacts that make contact with the pins on the clip-on charger to charge the tracker. The strap is flexible yet sturdy. Two small plastic fastening pegs are provided that can be adjusted in any holes to tighten the strap on wrist. Like any other fitness band, Tango Wellness Motivator has a small LCD. But the numbers and icons are displayed in bigger size and the display quality is high; so you are unlikely to face any problem in tracking your activities. In fact, even in direct sunlight, numbers and icons are easily legible.
To use this device, a user will have to download Act2Fit companion app on their smartphone. Once a user syncs his Tango Wellness Motivator to Act2Fit companion app, all the logged fitness metrics will be available for access anytime, anywhere. But there is a catch, it does not sync automatically. So you will have to open your Bluetooth and keep the singular button on the tracker pressed for a few seconds to initiate synchronisation every time. The app offers four options—activity, history, sleep and setup. All of these can be cycled through by swiping to the left or right.
The challenge with this device is its companion app, Act2Fit. The app does not have an option to create user account to keep logged fitness data. All the data is saved on the smartphone of a user. Every time the tracker synchronises with the app, a screenshot of the app is saved in the smartphone’s gallery itself. And, that is the only way of saving the data which is discouraging. Overall, Tango Wellness Motivator is a decent fitness tracker that offers elegant design, long lasting battery, an easy fit to wrist and good display quality.
