Sachin Tendulkar became one of the first buyers of the Smartron t-phone, as\u00a0sales finally started today, after its launch in May. The company attributed this to Smartron's effort in building the right kind of support system for its customers. Sachin went on to call it the first world class phone to have been made in India. The phones are being made available at a price of Rs. 22,999. Earlier this year Tendulkar had admitted to have been fascinated by technology and seemed impressed by Smartron's vision of growth. He had said that people need to support brands that are "designed and engineered in India" and can compete on a global scale. Smartron is headed by Mahesh Lingareddy, the co-founder and CEO of Soft Machines Inc, a US-based company with operations in US, India and Russia.Commenting on Tendulkar's association Lingareddy seemed excited said that it was a privilege to have Sachin as a part of the team. He called Sachin the greatest Indian icon of all time and an inspiration to millions. As Smartron prepares to compete with the big boys on a global scale, having the one of the greatest sports icon in history as their face will certainly give them the thrust they require.
