Samsung on Wednesday officially launched its Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic in Berlin ahead of the IFA 2016. The Samsung G3 retains the same old round design, that was seen with the Gear S2. The smartwatch comes with a resistance against water touch and is capable of making mobile payments and LTE connectivity. The watch also has a GPS and an inbuilt speaker. The G3 Classic though has a simple design, while the G3 Frontier has a rugged look with flashy bands and a bigger display. Earlier, the Samsung G2 had achieved commendable progress in the smartwatch category, with a personally customised watch face and rotating bezel, the company said at the event. The new Gear S3 is aimed at expanding the Gear collection with the purpose of introducing not just a great smartwatch but a great watch. Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and Wearable Business, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics said that with its capabilities and sophisticated elegant design, the Gear S3 marked a significant addition to their smartwatch portfolio.
The Gear S3 Frontier has a similar circular bezel as the G2 which is used to control the watch. Although, Samsung said that The G3 has been given a classic look and is compatible with 22mm watch bands. Both the smartwatches have a 1.3 inch circular AMOLED display with 360 x 360 pixels of resolutions(278ppi). The display comes with full colour and is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass cover. The watch face is 22mm. both the phones in the series have 4GB internal memory, 768MB RAM and a 380 mAh battery. The watches also support wireless charging. The weight of both the watches remains to be the difference between them with Gear S3 has a 3G/LTE connection and weights at 62 gms, which is slightly heavier than the Classic, weighing in at 57 gms. Both the watches are capable of supporting Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi b/g/n, NFC, MST, and GPS.
SSamsung says that the display on the watches remains on throughout showing the time without fading to black. Th rotating bezel has been given updates and can now accept or reject calls. The S3 users would also be able to write on the display, which would automatically get converted to text. Samsung claimed that the battery lasted up to 4 hours in both the watches. The price for these smartwatches has not been confirmed by the company. The date of their availability in the market is also a mystery.
