Samsung’s Koh said that the flagship smartphones - Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ - will be previewed at the MWC 2018
Samsung’s next flagship smartphone, dubbed Galaxy S9, has been in the news for some time now. There has already been a multitude of leaks and reports around Samsung Galaxy S9 and its bigger variant Galaxy S9+, hinting at their specifications including an Infinity Display, change in the rear camera module and fingerprint sensor, and even a massive 512GB variant as its biggest highlight. These recent reports also suggested that Samsung might unveil its next flagship smartphones at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018, which is underway in Las Vegas. However, Samsung’s mobile division head DJ Koh has squashed these reports to confirm that Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ flagship smartphones will launch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 later in February this year.
According to ZDNet, Samsung’s Koh said that the flagship smartphones – Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ – will be previewed at the MWC 2018, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain later in February this year. He added that the price and availability details of both the smartphones will also be divulged at the event. Earlier, Samsung’s first smartphone duo – Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ – were launched last year in March at its Unpacked Event held in New York. Interestingly, this year Samsung seems to be bringing its next flagship devices a month earlier.
In addition to the announcement centred around Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, Koh also said that the South Korean tech giant will unveil the sequel to its digital assistant, Bixby. It will be called Bixby 2.0 and will come with improvements. He also emphasised that all Samsung devices will have Bixby integration latest by 2020. “Many companies have AI competence, but not many have hardware competence,” Koh told media at the press conference. “We started a little later [than others] but we are confident in offering the best experience for consumers.”
The Samsung Galaxy S9 has been rumoured to come with specifications that aren’t very different from its predecessors. However, a slight bump in the specifications will be seen. As per recent reports, the Galaxy S9 will also have a huge 512GB storage variant, which is certainly going to diminish the use of external memory in smartphones. Samsung is present at the CES 2018 where it took off the wraps from some really intriguing devices including its modular TV called ‘The Wall’.
