According to various reports, tech giant Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy S8 as an all-screen, edge-to-edge smartphone. Now a report has surfaced in Bloomberg which says that the smartphone will get rid of the Home button which has been a regular feature in Galaxy devices since the very beginning. According to a source cited by Bloomberg, ‘the new phones will only come with wraparound displays’ which will be like the Google Pixel. This also means that the ‘Galaxy’ phone will go the ‘Edge’ way. According to several leaks, the company might bring out one smartphone or may two with slightly different sizes.
According to the report, the targeted March release might get postponed until April. The report added, “Samsung is adopting tougher testing procedures in the wake of the Note 7 debacle that could push back the launch by about a month, one of the people said.” This may be because of the exploding Galaxy Note 7 disaster. With so many speculations going on, tt is difficult to say if a month will make any difference on the phone, but it just might make a difference in the marketing strategy of Samsung. The company may project the smartphone as a highly tested and verified device, in order to reassure its consumers. Whether the strategy is the same as speculated or not, it is clear that Samsung will have to present a dramatically different new device so that people risk a chance to buy the Galaxy S8. The bezel-less display is one of the features to start with.
After the hit of almost $6 billion because of the Galaxy Note 7, Samsung needs this smartphone to be a hit. This is more so because on the other end Apple is continuously incorporating innovative technology to bring out the next iPhone. The bezel-less smartphone is not a new technology as many brands have tried to make edge-to-edge devices, while recently Chinese brand Xiaomi showed off its Mi Mix smartphone which had similar features.
