Nokia MWC 2018 event highlights: Nokia 1 Android Go phone, Nokia 8110 4G, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018), and Nokia 8 Sirocco announced

Nokia MWC 2018 Launch Live: Nokia 1 Android Go phone, Nokia 3310 4G, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 Plus Android One phone, and Nokia 9 aka Nokia 8 Sirocco expected to launch at the event by HMD Global.

Nokia MWC 2018 Launch Live: HMD Global is just a few minutes away to commence its event in Barcelona where it is expected to announce a slew of new Nokia smartphones. The expected smartphones that the company will launch today are Nokia 1, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 9, and Nokia 3310 4G. While the Nokia 1, Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 9 will be launched for the first time at the scheduled event, the Nokia 6 (2018), which was recently launched in China, is set to be globally announced along with the Nokia 3310 4G that was also launched in China last month.

The HMD Global launch event starts at 4 pm CET, which is equivalent to 8:30 pm IST, Sunday, February 25. The event will be available to watch live via the online streaming on the company’s Facebook page as well as its website. Nokia smartphones launched at MWC 2018 event

HMD Global has so far been rumoured to launch as many as three new smartphones and showcase two already launched phones including Nokia 6 (2018) and Nokia 3310 4G. The new Nokia smartphones that are expected to make debut at the event include the Nokia 1, Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 9 aka Nokia 8 Sirocco. While the Nokia 1 is said to be an Android Oreo (Go edition) smartphone, the Nokia 7 Plus has been rumoured to ship with Android One and Nokia 9 aka Nokia 8 Sirocco will be the top-end smartphone from the company.

Coming to the Nokia 1, the entry-level smartphone will be one of the first Android Oreo (Go edition) smartphones that were confirmed by Google to make debut for the first time at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018. It will pack entry-level specifications that include an HD display, either a Snapdragon 212 or entry-level MediaTek processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded via microSD card. According to the recently leaked image by Evan Blass, the Nokia 1 will bear smaller dimensions than the Nokia 2 and will look like a pebble.

The Nokia 7 Plus, on the other hand, will be a mid-tier smartphone that will be a successor to the Nokia 7. It has been rumoured to be one of the Android One smartphones that will be launched during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 convention. It will come with specifications including a 6-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, a dual rear camera setup with a 13-megapixel primary and a 12-megapixel secondary sensor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt memory.

The Nokia 9, which is also reported to be called the Nokia 8 Sirocco, will be the premium smartphone from the house of HMD Global. The smartphone will bear a 5.5-inch 18:9 OLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, Android 8.0 Oreo, and 128GB of internal storage.

The Nokia 6 (2018) and Nokia 3310 4G have already been announced in China last month. At MWC 2018, HMD Global is expected to announce the global debut of both the smartphones just like the original Nokia 6 that was launched in January last year before it was globally announced at MWC 2017.

9:09 pm – Florian Seiche is back on stage to wrap up the event that is concluding with the first preview of Nokia’s new campaign video. The Nokia devices launched today are – Nokia 8110 4G, Nokia 1, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 8 Sirocco.

9:05 pm – Google’s Jamie talks about the partnership of Google with HMD Global to power the new Nokia devices – Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 6 (2018) with Android One security and improvements – and the Nokia 1 with Android Oreo (Go edition). He added that Android P will come to these devices sooner than other devices.

8:57 pm – The Nokia 8 Sirocco launched. The smartphone was earlier rumoured to be known as Nokia 9. The Nokia 8 Sirocco is the revamped version of one of the topline old Nokia phones. It has wireless charging along with IP67 rating. It also bears Gorilla Glass 5 protection and a stainless steel body. It will be available in April starting at 749 euros (roughly Rs. 60,000).

8:52 pm – Nokia 7 Plus announced. It too comes with Android One experience and is powered by Snapdragon 660 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM. It bears a dual camera setup powered by Zeiss. It costs 399 euros (roughly Rs 33,000) and will be available in April this year.

8:46 pm – Nokia 6 (2018), the successor to the original Nokia 6, has been announced. It is one of the Android One smartphones that will come with stock Android experience. The Nokia 6 (2018) comes with the much-awaited face unlock feature and is powered by Snapdragon 835 SoC. It will be available in three colours – Blue Gold, Black Copper, White with Iron colour accent at a price of 279 euros towards the beginning of April.

8:42 pm – The Nokia 1 Android Oreo (Go edition) finally announced. It is the entry-level smartphone with 1GB of RAM and comes with Android Go apps that will make the device run at ease. It will be available in early April and is priced at $85 (roughly Rs 5,500). The smartphone also comes with Xpress-On covers that will be available in different colours

8:41 pm – The Nokia 8110 4G comes preloaded with the newly announced Android Go apps such as Assistant Go, Gmail Go, Maps Go along with the iconic Snake game. It will come in Black and Banana Yellow colours and will begin shipping in May starting at 79 euros.

8:38 pm – Juho Sarvikas is on the stage to announce the launch of one more classic Nokia phone – the Nokia 8110 4G. It is the rehashed version of the classic Nokia 8110.

8:35 pm – He said that Nokia is now at the top spot among the feature phones globally by volume. The Nokia brand is among the top 5 smartphone brands in over 15 markets globally while 70 millions Nokia smartphones were shipped last year

8:33 pm – Florian Seiche, CEO of HMD Global talking about the launch of Nokia phones by HMD Globlal that have reached more than 170 markets in the world. A total of 11 Nokia phones are now available to the customers via over 250,000 retailers.

8:30pm – HMD Global is about to start its mega launch event where the Nokia 1, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 3310 4G, and Nokia 9 are expected to be unveiled.
